So this is crossposted to [info]note_to_asshat complete with the terminology. [info]elorie puts on her mod hat and goes to town. The idea that she refuses to allow possible trolls to join somehow makes her evil and them oppressed. Insanity abounds over what is essentially a very unimportant issue. But, lj communities are serious business.

Wow. Wow. They are so amazingly ... entitled.
Y'know, I can understand being annoyed because someone's child was FIVE all day at a convention or conference. My first PhreakNIC was co-opted and nearly ruined by the bratty kids of one of the con-members -- but that totally doesn't excuse the absolute entitlement of these CF people. WTF. You don't like kids. Great, fine, whatever -- your dislike doesn't mean other people have to dislike them too!
And funny thing, guess what? If that child was such a problem, all you have to do is make rules for the next con disallowing children! How amazingly simple!
Equally amazing~your butt got pwned not because of the subject matter, but because of your treatment of it. You want to bitch about inconsiderate people in a comm for said bitching? GREAT! I'll happily say crotch dropping when venting about some kid on here, but wouldn't use it in a general comm because many people do find it offfensive and there are ways of ranting about badly behaved kids without using this terminology. It's one of the reasons CF comms exist - to provide a safe space to use those terms.

This person is sane!

..I, perhaps, am not for wanting to erase any and all uses of that word (and all the other special child-free terms) from this planet so that THEY NEVER RETURN.

Both sides come across looking pretty batshit. Like we have the "I hate kids!" person butting heads with the "OMG! you can't say anything bad about a child! You rotten excuse for a human being!"

I understand the mod erasing it, but she would have looked 100% better had she just stated, "You broke the rules, your post was erased." Now it just looks like everyone is playing a pissing victim game. "You pissed on the children!" "Now you've pissed on me!" "But you pissed on the children, I shall piss twice as fast on you!" "But just because I pissed on the children, doesn't give you the right to piss on me!"

Sometimes the best way to deal with fanatics is to forbid them with kindness. That always baffles the fuck out of them.

So she bitches the CFer out about "crotchmuffin", and yet feels perfectly entitled to refer to the CF crowd as "Childfreeks"? wow. hypocrisy, much?

And, tbh, I think the poster in childfree kinda had a point. If a very hostile, badly phrased one. Five year old kids and high-powered conferences do not, traditionally, mix very well. Babysitters exist for a reason, people.

There were points on both sides. She's entitled to keep terminology she doesn't like out of her community. The post itself was on the mark, if over the top in its use of language.

It's the sheer volume and silliness of the responses elorie felt inspired to make that got me giggling. Over-reactive, much?

I think I understand the "hardcore child-free" mindset.

They ARE children, and they don't want the competition.

So you can't use CF slang in note_to_asshat. Not a surprise. BFD, the mod is oversensitive about her chilluns.

Just substitute obnoxious kid, badly behaved child, or brat for all of the CF slang. Then it's no different from a parent complaining about some other person's misbehaving child. I know my mother would have had a fit about that kind of crap.

I dunno, I guess you could charge the mod with overreacting, but, hey, her comm, her rules. Plus, having seen the way the whackjob cfers run around fapping when someone challenges them, I can't blame her for disabling comments.

But what cracks me up is that these people would so much rather be victims than do ANYTHING (except whine, of course). I was reading the OP's post, thinking, "Well, if she was staff, why didn't she just go up to the parent, and politely ask her to keep the child quiet or leave?"

But of course, that's me being crazy, since a) "polite" does not go hand-in-hand with "crotchdropping" and "cuntmuffin", and b) the OP would much rather WHINE WHINE WHINE about OMG MOOMY OPPRESSION than actually take responsibility for something. As we can see by the furor and outraged reactions to being banned from an LJ community.

Why is it such a hard concept to grasp that she wouldn't want obvious trolls in her community? Especially since it's pretty clear that was their intent based on their sudden desperate interest to join after their pal got her post deleted. (Which, by the way, entitlement whores, was the mod's perogative.) Why would you want to be a member of a com that doesn't want you except to start drama?

And in other news, I totally agreed with the OP in principle, but she lost me somewhere around crotch muffin or cunt bunny.

You rant all the time about how non-CF people are the bane of your existance and can't tolerate your views and oppress you. Why the fuck do you continue to cross-post your rants to attempt to get validation for your anger in places that probably are full of parents? Admittedly, the situation described has the great potential to irrtate parents, the CF, and innocent bystanders as well, but for the love of God, if you're going to take your party into free for all territory, could you at least word it better instead of painting a big "I AM AN IGNORANT JACKASS" sign across your forehead with your insulting language?
