One's a troll; the other's a dipshit -- together, they take over womens_studies!
So over at [info]womens_studies, things start when our dipshit, [info]politicallydest, who claims to be a feminist man, asks the comm, "why people think once they’re married, they’re obligated to make/have more family-oriented meals". Somehow, this ends up in him arguing about Unitarian Universalism. Our troll, [info]leanne_femme, sees an opportunity, and completely concurs: "Women feel the need to prove themselves and this often occurs in the kitchen/home. It's ridiculous! Women should stop wasting their time on the futile aspects of life and contribute to society in other ways!"

Shortly after this kerfuffle, we get the first "this discussion hurts my feelings" post.

Not to be deterred, leanne_femme continues by informing the comm that "It is a sad reflection on the state of Western societies that (presumably) educated women with an interest in gender theory feel the need to defend the housewife of today." Naturally, the post explodes, with such delights as housewives are all boring Christians and "there's nothing frustrating about working at home" and posting pictures of your kids online is stupid because OMG pedophiles, you bad mother! (Summachos, lit_girl, and elysistrata get bored in that thread and take the time to chat.) OMG you're still a bad mother and a bad feminist!. Oh, hell, that post is a wankparade with more highlights than I can link since LJ's being a bitch.

Then, just in case there was anyone left who hadn't figured out she was a troll, she posts, "Women should stop voicing their thoughts and opinions in internet forums with the intention of starting a heated debate and get back to the cooking, cleaning etc.". Most of the comm yawns and doesn't bite.

Someone else comes to defend feminist stay-at-home-moms with this nice post, in which politicallydest gets into it with elysistrata and tells her, "Lady, you need to read more, think more and be less emotional." Which is what any feminist man would run around saying, right?

Another stay-at-home-mom posts to complain and beg for modly intervention (the mod in this comm appears to be AWOL or pretending the whole comm doesn't exist). This post, too, explodes, mostly because politicallydest pisses on it with "You bore me. I am sure you bore your hubby, too. He just doesn't say it."

Meanwhile, someone makes a new comm, because you just have to when these things go down. There was also apparently some sort of dramatic I'm leaving post, which its poster deleted and took back.

Finally, politicallydest apologises, such as it is, where summachos schools him some more, jenyum is still pissed, and _fauxsilence_ still wants him banned. He says he's leaving, but we all know how those things go in LJ-land.

Feminist wank skeeves me out in a way that nothing else does. I want to go live in the woods as a hermit after reading the crap some of these people post. A feminist hermit, dammit.

That is, except for the UU argument, because I just find that sort of thing silly. Mostly because UUs tend to be so damn cool and non-wanky in general, and this is sort of a novelty.

I thought that was pretty funny as well. And it reminded me of the Best Email Forward Ever, "Letter From Unitarian Jihad To the Enslaved Citizens of America."

What the heck is a family-oriented meal? His examples of non-family meals seem to be what my mother fed us all those years.

What the heck is a family-oriented meal?

Something that includes baby carrots, baby corn, and baby back ribs.

[info]politicallydest says: Oh, and my response to your post made complete sense, I am sure. I always make sense.

BWAHAHAHAHA!

I actually read almost all of it. And then lectured my door for fifteen minutes about my beliefs and life plans and why I'm still a feminist. I pity my future children. They will be subjected to these rants when I make my informed decision to take a few years off from my career to raise them in a manner that my education and research has led me to believe will be best for them. But that's just crazy talk, of course. No intelligent, ambitious woman who actually wants to make a difference in the world ever makes the decision to stay home with her kids, even for a few years. Obviously the patriarchy forces them into it.

Though, he does seem to have learned a lesson in the end. And I now worship [info]summachos.

Er. How does one's sexuality shape one's relationship with food? If I was straight, would I stop liking bananas or something?
