OMG! You Use Your Aimals for Meat?! But They're Cute!
Ebay wank and animal rights wanks all rolled into one!

jnlldnx posts a a thread about their show rabbits. Squees! and "OMG! So Cute!"'s abound. Until iamgobsmacked comes along and with the obvious intention of trpping the OP asks They are adorable, so you keep them all as pets? what about the ones that don't quite come up to show quality, do you keep them, or sell them for meat?

To which jnlldnx replies:...I sell my non showables as pets, or as meat. Though alot of my others are sold as breeders or show rabbits. I can't keep all of them...

mykitmoStorms in on the charger of persumptions and Peta propaganda:I have posted more than once on this board that the vast majority of rabbits lead lives of he-- & your statement is exactly why rabbit rescuers have a problem with breeders. If rabbits are not used as mini-breeding factories, then they are used for food, fur & the pharmaceutical industry. And let's not forget the pet store industry with Easter coming up. Breeders should be ashamed for partaking in a practice, where the majority of baby bunnies do NOT survive three months past Easter. Sure they are adorable, but they are Not a pet for a child to be bought for a holiday decoration. If they are not killed by poor handling & feeding, they are usually abandoned to a shelter, or left on the side of a road to "go wild."

crazy_bird_ladyShows her rage with a helpful emoticon:I sell my non showables as pets, or as meat.

>=0!

I can't wrap my head around the fact that someone who is breeding for the 'love' of animals could sell their babies for meat. Guess they're all just 'stock' to some.

blowin'inthewindMakes the obvious logical jump to how OP would treat their children.I guess those photos would not be so fun to share?

.
.
.
.
.
.
.

I hope all your human offspring are "show quality?"

The Op tries to defend themselves with reason:To everyone else that just turned this into a drama post. Too bad. Rabbits are a multi-purpose animal. It doesn't mean that I treat them any differently then any other rabbit owner, or breeder would. They are originally bred for food, fur, meat, and more recently pets. And going for meat is way better then being dumped in an animal shelter, where theres he chance it'll be killed and wasted anyways. You guys asked. I answered truthfully. It always amazes me that people can go out and eat a hamburger, and nobody screams creulty to animals to the farmers because they are killing cows. But when it comes to cute fluffy animals that are also bred for food, the lynch mob seems to surface in full force.

lovesmydogsDemonstrates the fact she in unaware of the fact calves are rather cute too.jnlldxn, your honest answers to the questions sure ruined my enjoyment of the pictures and learning that there was such a thing as show rabbits......

sam-sherMakes one wonder if she can't even look at pics of vegetables without becoming ill.I thank you for being honest about your rabbits.

But are you on crack or what?!?!?!?!

You take beautiful pictures of your rabbits and they say we sell them off for meat. GROSS!!!!!!!!

That is like taking a picture of your future dinner.

If you get roasted on here it is your own fault, you brought in on yourself.

nocturnalgoddessHas no problem with other animals eating the rabbits but not humans.Sold for human consumption YUCK!! Now I think I could have handled being sold as feeders a lot better with the understanding that other animals have to eat also.

iamgobsmackedis offended that the OP dare insinuate that they started this!Uh How do you arrive at this? because I asked a question? I didn't make the answer, I merely asked the question. I have shown enormous restraint in responding to this. I am not responsible for the feeling of the others here, although I do support their stand 200%. So get a grip, and BTW stop biting your fingernails you are going to get a serious nail bed infection.

Lots of craziness all around to enjoy.

As someone who wants to start her own rabbit rescue organization one day I say that there's nothing wrong with eating Fluffy. I don't eat it myself since I'm not big on meats that are not chicken, cow or buffalo (the latter two I only have a few times a year) but becoming someone's dinner is a lot better than being abused and neglected for years until experiencing a painful death.

Umm, forgive me if I'm mistaken, but aren't show rabbits judged on how much meat they would yield, and the quality of the meat and pelt? Do rabbit show-ers not realize this? I helped a friend decipher judging criteria and standards for a county fair she entered her rabbit in, and it was all about the potential meat and fur.

I love rabbit; my maternal uncle lived in town and had five kids, and raised rabbits for meat. We traded beef for rabbit a few times a year.

Calves are cute and fuzzy. I have deep love and respect for my food animals, and feel a lot better about eating animals I know were raised with kindness than plant foods which have been grown, harvested, and stored in an ag technology which kills millions of rodents, reptiles, and birds every year.

"This one's a cutie and this one's fuzzy and I ate that one for dinner a couple days ago! Bastard messed up his coat and couldn't win Mommy any more awards. He had it coming."

BTW, those are really small animals for meat rabbits.

I think I'll take the side of the crazies. I foster rescue bunnies because of people like the OP, and won't condone the irresponsibility of stuff like this:

Its just me, acrylicartistrabbits under a new user name. So hi everyone. A little update on what ive been up to. I still have my bunnies. Though not as many. I had a bunch of dogs get into my rabbiry and killed off twenty of them. Ten on thanks giving. 9 more three weeks later, and one from stress. I have about twenty bunnies left. The dogs did come back a third time after we rebuilt the front of my building. One of them actually managed to trap itself inside the building. And the police came down and shot it because it was a problem feral dog that had been roaming the area for the longest time. So yeah. No owners were found to pay up.

They got alot of my bunnies that I showed at the american rabbit breeders national show. BUt they didnt get my best of breed winner. Though he was very lucky because they got every single rabbit caged around him. He lives in my house now for safety purposes.

I ended up going out and spending almost an entire paycheck on electric fencing equipment to keep the remaining dogs away from the others. One of the dogs still comes around at night and 'tests' the fence. I always see his tracks, but can never catch him. But the fence seems to be working on protecting the others.

The fact that they got back in says that she didn't do much after the first attack, and "rebuilt the front of the building" reads to me that there wasn't adequate protection to begin with. But hey, she's got the important one inside so it's all ok!

Okay...people can eat what the hell they like, but I do think that someone who raises a bunch of animals herself, (& I'm not talking farmers here) then sends the Not Show Quality ones of them off to a silver platter & sauce must be a bit ... detached.

Aren't they supposed to be pets or something? People breeding purely for din-dins I can understand, but I can't imagine a posh cat/dog breeder doing that, and you could definitely eat them...ah, forget it.

Perhaps it's just my Vegetarian Soul giving into some h8.
