[info]booju_mooju is at it again.

[info]journalismgirl posts an article about the status of expectant/new mother parking spaces at malls and convenience stores across the U.S. Anybody who has been watching [info]childfree wank should realize by now that this simply cannot end well.

It starts with [info]snarfywarning making the mistake of not seeing the big deal about special spaces, which we all know is actually a big deal. The Interweb is serious bizness, after all. From there, is descends into the usual anti-parent wank that peckish thirteen year olds only dream of as [info]sblmnldrkness weighs in.

Highlights include:

[info]crimsonnicole attempting to talk sense about the advantages of bigger spaces for mothers with strollers. Not that [info]sblmnldrknss gets the point.

[info]snarfywarning mentions that it's just a nice gesture that these mothers don't have to walk across the parking lot with their bags. But, NOT SO! according to [info]sblmnldrkness. In fact, this is actually hurting the image of pregnant women in the workplace. Watch the splooge fly as she and [info]prime_radiant go at it!

Even when others speak their part, [info]sblmnldrkness just keeps missing the point.

Meanwhile, [info]prime_radiant and [info]sblmnldrkness return to their respective corners.

Then [info]sandienotsandy (SANDY) walks in with a but pregnant mothers ARE special! post. This has produced very little wanking, but keep an eye on it.

This post is still fairly new, and other tiny wanks still popping up, so sit back and grab some popcorn, guys. This is gonna be fun!

This topic always has some nice wanks, lol.

I only don't like those pregnant parking spaces when places replaces some of the handicap spaces with them (seen that), are closer to the entrance than the handicap spaces (seen that too), have more pregnant parking spaces than handicap spaces (seen that as well). Other than that I could care less since I park at the back of the lot since I find that *gasp* walking is fun! (plus there's always spots back there and I don't have to fight with impatient people).

And less chance that someone will whack into your vehicle. I'm with you; I love parking at the back of the lot.

Yeah, that's generally my feeling. Leave the handicap spots alone, but litter a few pregnancy areas where you can. I really don't see the big deal. The Giant Eagle where I live has a few, and it's never hindered me getting a spot - mostly 'cuz, y'know, it's usually packed and I'm the back anyway. But...still. :-P

Dear [info]sblmnldrkness,

Your personal experience is not universal. Your personal preferences are not universal. Saying something does not automatically make it so. You might have had a slightly valid point (societal coddling of pregnant women can be detrimental), but by refusing to listen to anyone else and completely ignoring earth logic, you just look like a giant asshole.

Shut up. Please.

PS: I've tried the carrier thing. If the kid likes it, they're wonderful, but if the kid doesn't, it's impossible. I'd like to see you go shopping with a flailing, wailing child strapped to your body. Stroller vs. sling is no indication of your parental devotion, no matter what Penelope Leach says.

You know, I've only seen spots for either new moms or moms with children (yeah it sounds redundant but I can almost see the need for super clarification there "your kids are home don't be a douche"). By "spots" I mean one spot per parking lot but in different parking lots, and by parking lots I mean only those leading to supermarkets, and with the exception of one grocery store, they were usually near the cart corral (which is where I tend to park anyway).

I've never seen a spot designated in any way for pregnant women outside the entrance to the OB/GYN wing of the clinic I went to, and there was only one time when I'd actually have liked one, and that was because I really would have liked just a little less time to reach the ladies room.

You'd think the childfree people would be happy because those spots could be read as saying pregnant women = handicap people.

The crazy childfree people would really benefit from a glass is half full kind of attitude. :P

Childfree wank always makes me want to go and have lots of babies, just because.

I must admit that I like the front/back slings way better than strollers though. Because no one with their baby in a sling has ever tried to run me over. I can't count the number of near-fatal experiences I've had this way.

No person in a wheelchair chose that.

Not according to some idiots I've run into!

Okay, they didn't say choose, but they did say most of people with disabilities "deserved it". Unless they were born that way, of course. No, I am not making this up.

I wonder if the batshit childfree crowd would wank about handicapped mothers getting parking spaces...probably.

The only reason I would wank about the pregnant mother spaces is that there are handicapped spaces but not ones for general older/less mobile people. But whatever. I'm perfectly content to give up my seat on buses and subways for all of them; it's not like I'm sitting around saying, "Damn it, don't make me stop being lazy! it makes them that mad that someone else can park closer than they can because they have an 8 lb being inside them, maybe they should consider their priorities. Are these people too lazy to walk?

For serious now.

I never get this argument at all. As long as handicapped spaces aren't being taken over, why is this such an issue?

Just. don't get it.

The part about standing on the bus was awful, though. WITHOUT being pregnant, it's hard to keep your balance standing inside a moving vehicle, and city buses lurch and jerk and sway and crap. Who would seriously have an issue with pregnant women sitting down? It makes pregnant women look bad if they don't risk a hard, painful fall?

Most of all, I loved the comment where someone said, "My mall has parking for handicapped people, pregnant women AND seniors! Where will it end?"

Hopefully when people of reduced mobility can make it to the door without half-dying?

I want to go in there and tell people that I want to see parking for people with small children That I want fifty spaces right next to the handicapped spots and I want it to be manditory that they park there.

Why? Because twice, I've almost hit a child that was too small to be seen out my car window, because Mom was too busy staring at the clouds, or her arms were too full of purchases to watch that kid.

I'd much rather the kids were right up at the front, where there is less danger of them being backed into by a car, thank you very much.

Think that'll start wank?

Apropos of nothing, but this reminds me of the time I took my six year old to the grocery store. As we passed by the handicapped parking spaces she pointed to them and said, "Those are for old people who forgot how to walk."

And I died. Laughed so loud that people kind of chuckled.

Anyway, these folks are just so ridiculous they inspire a similar reaction.
