Backstory (which I shared on Fandom lounge): a sculptor has made a statue depicting Britney Spears giving birth (albeit in an anatomically difficult manner); he is claiming -- possibly tongue-in-cheek -- that it is a "monument to pro-life."

The good people at OhNoTheyDidnt have discovered it as well. And predominantly, there is abortion rights wank.

"A statue of an abused child is a better monument to prolife, innit?"

"ABORTION IS FOR DUMBASSES!"

"I'M RIGHT BECAUSE I TYPE BIG IN CAPS!"

"Abortions are hot."

This guy seems especially wanky. Really, REALLY wanky.

Didn't she have a c-section?

She did. She did indeed.

The artist, however, officially claims to have wanted to combine the image of "Britney as sex goddess" and "Britney as birthing mother" to give the final message of "sex goddesses can be mothers too." He based his inspiration for the pose, he added, on a Madame Tussaud's wax model of Britney doing pole-dancing.

Unofficially, though, I'm seeing more and more evidence that the artist is actually either a serious wise-ass, or is barking mad.

My brain exploded when I saw that statue.

Not because it was pro-life, but because BRITNEY SPEARS was the model. And she was laying ofn a BEARSKIN RUG.

If you're pro-life, be pro-life for EVERYTHING, OK? Oh, you can't? No one can. Sucks, don't it? At least get off your high horse when you think humans are ZOMG SUPEERIOR to everything else.

Dear [info]trtlejae

I hope you plan on adoping babies rather than squeezing out a kajillion of your own, because I'm totally tired of all these people who are pro-life but don't adopt children.

Have the good grace to accept that you are wrong and please don't trip while stepping off that tall ass pony.

No love for hoes

PS - Way to make pro-life be for the uneducated.

Wow, did my last comment come out all wonky or what. I meant to say, pro-chocie AND pro-life advocates would probably get along better if they remembered the part about "choice." Nobody's forcing them in or out of an abortion clinic.

On a side note, that's a gorgeous piece of artwork, albeit, the sculptor's chocie of model puzzles me.

At the risk of being a little wanky, actually, yes, many pro-life advocates are trying to force people out of abortion clinics. Women who are personally pro-life can coexist in harmony with a pro-choice society, but the reverse is not true.

You have a valid point. I was, perhaps, thinking of pro-life advocates like myself, who are politically pro-choice but personally pro-life.

Then... no offense intended... but you're pro-choice, without qualification. Nobody is pro-abortion, barring a few of the crazier nutjobs on cf_hardcore. Nothing about pro-choice says you have to have gotten/be willing to get/encourage your friends to get abortions, rly.

While I've heard good things about hands-and-knees as a birth position, just looking at that contorted position is making my uterus hurt. Can you imagine the back labor like that? ::shudder::

That was all I could think of too. I could see all fours (in fact, I spent hours of my first labor in that possition), but I don't see how the position that statue is in could help push out a baby. I wanted to yell at her to sit up and get some one to support her back (and rub it).

I hate Pro choice people--they deserve to be tortured slowly

I would think that wanting to torture people and wishing them death would result in a one way trip to Hell too. It's a pity people like s/h/it don't think about that when they post crap.

I also think that some of these Pro-Lifers need to realize that Pro-Choice does not equal Pro-Abortion. Regardless of my personal option on abortion I think women deserve the right to decide what goes on with their body.

ATTENTION Supposed 'Pro-Lifers'-

Learn more about what you claim your view on the subject of abortion to be. Saying you wanna kill pro-choice people or people who have abortions are going to Hell or doctors who perform abortions are the devils themselves ISN'T HELPING THE CAUSE. You can't kill someone and claim it's okay just because you think it's in defense of an unborn child. Death is death is death- get that through your heads. In addition, didn't God say something about let he with no sin cast the first stone? That means you don't have the right to condemn someone else to Hell unless you are completely sin free. God doesn't like it when people try to do His job.

Ugh... people make me wanna move to a shack in the middle of nowhere.

Sadly, it's one of the myths (= lies) pro-lifers spread. Of course, what they mean by that is that women who have abortions are lazy sluts who couldn't be bothered to have contraception, and therefore have gazillions of abortions.

It makes me want to bash some heads in a wall.
