Apparently there's been some controversy about China offering Taiwan a pair of giant pandas, and Well, I'm Taiwanese, and I don't appreciate the subtle hint at China/Taiwan unity. Historically we meant shit to China, so I don't see why they suddenly insist on being our bestest pals after our GDP rose up higher than theirs...oh, wait, maybe that's why. Funny news article, but I have to wonder at reporter neutrality when clearly the author isn't. I don't care for the Chinese government, and have no wish to become part of their country, or have anything to do with their communist policies. Pandas are cute, but if they're going to name them with names like Tuan Yuan, I can't help but be a little wary. Of course, best course as far as I'm concerned, is simply to take the gift, and then rename them. The ensuing sub-thread is then frozen, although It's not huge, but the passive aggressiveness on both sides makes up for it. |
