non-childfree wank in childfree
[info]fizzyland discovers that manufacturers are having to design bigger carseats for "butterball toddlers" and dangles it in front of [info]childfree.
Some of the members take it as a personal slight ("It's funny how fat is one of the few things left that's OK to make fun of and to lump everyone who IS it into one easy category." -[info]veronica_rich)
The personal trainer of the bunch, [info]goddessava, insists that "There's prejudice against beautiful fit people too, I get that shit every day."
[info]fiona64 pwns. [info]goddessava doesn't seem to get it.
Generally, one big mess.

ETA: [info]goddessava mysteriously disappears.

I wonder what [info]goddessava would think if she knew the human brain was about 66% fat...

It's kind of ironic how so many people claiming that something is the last thing that's acceptable to discriminate against. We have the gay people, then we got the catholics, the fat people, and the smokers. Clearly, discrimination is alive and well.

Why is it anytime someone says the word "obesity" or "overwieght" there are a hundred people who pop up to say, "It's a thyroid problem"? You can't even suggest that there might be some people are overweight due to their lifestyle.

People need to be woken up by means not always kind. Sometimes you do have to be cruel to be kind in some cases, and I've never shied from it. Obese people need to be helped. Sometimes by any means necessary short of bariatric surgery, unless they honestly say they don't care and want to die.

(In other words, we had to destroy the Krispy Kreme to save the Krispy Kreme.)

OT but I have to seize on this one thing...

Feuraffe sez: Geez, I just saw some article about how hospitals are having to increase bed and chair sizes...as well as widen doors. Now this. I just want to leave this place, heh, and go somewhere that isn't full of bad health.

I...I feel a rant coming on. It's not JUST that people are getting heavier but they're getting taller, too. Average height for a man in the early 1900s was five feet, three inches. The first Miss America (1916 I think) was four feet, nine inches. These days most of us are just a squinch bigger. My brother is nearly 7 freakin' feet, his wife is six feet and they produced several LARGE babies! Let's hear it for the 'butterball' carriers. They get teased (people asking for an advance weather report, y'know) but they're not really that unusual. A hundred years ago the whole family would have been pitched into the nearest circus.

My point being that I, for one, welcome our new Wider/Taller Chairs and Doorway Overlords.

Anyway, while goddessava is getting her ass kicked, is anyone else concerned that fat carsets have to be made in the first place?! O.o Way to encourage responsible parenting and good eating habits! "Your kids is fat? That's okay! Take this car seat! Test it out with a McDonalds drive through."

Sometimes I wonder why people don't have licenses for baby-making and then I remember all the reasons why that would fail spectacularly.

Ah, yes. Another post about teh disgust that is fat people. We're all fat because we eat too much and don't exercise enough. Generalize away.

Okay, if we were talking about adults, that's one thing. But if a young kid is so large that they can't fit into a seat, that's a whole new kettle of fish.

Man, the fat acceptance arguments always leave a sour taste in my mouth.

Cause on one hand, weight is just a number. My size 10s are getting loose and I just clocked in at over 160lbs the other day. I'm all tits, ribcage, and leg muscles.

I generally eat around 1200 calories a day. I've been student teaching so I spend all day on my feet, and my current Sunday job is my hardware store job -- running around like a madwoman and stocking heavy things, loading heavy things, etc.

So I know you can be healthy, fit, and look good and still be over the guidelines for your height.

On the other hand, if you're eating fast food every day, if you work a desk job, if you don't have the opportunity to work out, then your weight is, the majority of the time, NOT due to extenuating circumstances, but your lifestyle.

And if you're okay with that, fine. Just own up to your own role in your body and your health.
