Why Doesn't The Bank Have A PlayPlace?!

From [info]bad_service, [info]mamid  posts with much ire:

http://community.livejournal.com/bad_service/698023.html

I took my kids with me when I had to go to the bank yesterday. The bank in question had two ways to enter but had locked the other door, so that left a huge area for kids to run around in. Nor are mine the only ones to ever run around in said place. Do note: there are no toys that other banks, or even branches of this same bank, have to occupy kids. Just a dead end.

So, while I was dealing with my transaction, I hear a "whump" then my son crying. I call him to me and keep him at my side for the rest of the time there. He's whimpering. As I go to leave, I realize that my son didn't just hit his head but has a gash by his eye. The hostess was really rude. No offer of first aide was given even though I asked for some. Not even the security guard who was standing by the only entrance.

Last night, I write a letter via their online customer support and tell them what happened. I get a boiler plate reply of "contact customer service here if you have more concerns."

Uh. yah. I have some concerns. Why don't they have an area to keep the kids occupied? Why don't they have a first aide kit on the premises? And why did the hostess have to be so rude? The area around my son's eye is swollen right where the wound is. If it had bled more, I would have been raising more of a fuss. Instead, I'll just watch him for any problems.

Responses are...probably not what she expected:

[info]katieturtle:  Why would you expect a bank to provide a babysitting service for you? Hire someone to watch your children while you run errands or do not let your kids run around like that without you watching them. You are the parent, not the bank employees, and it's your responsibility to watch your children, not theirs. This post does not belong in bad service, it belongs in a community for bad parents.

[info]kikayume :  It's not the bank's job to mother your children.
If you cannot supervise them, do not take them.
Not everywhere is expected to cater to you letting your children run rampant.

[info]furryhatsrock : If it were a nursery or day care center, there would be toys. And people to watch your children for you.

A bank, on the other hand, is full of people wanting to complete financial transactions and who probably don't appreciate listening to your kids wailing and running around playing.

Day care... bank. Day care... bank. Clearly, these things are not equal.

It's no one's responsibility but yours to watch your children and keep them entertained, and to make sure they're not running around like maniacs. If you can't do that, then leave them with a friend or relative while you take care of your business. I seem to remember, as a child, that my mother could take myself and my younger brother places and we very rarely acted up.

It's called personal responsibility. Learn to have some.

[info]mamid  fires back:  So, my son being hurt in a bank which could open them up to liabilities and lawsuits doesn't matter?

My son is 3, partially deaf, hyperactive and what does the hostess give him as soon as he walks through the door on every other visit? A sucker. Which sends him ballistic and he spends the next hour bouncing off the walls.

What's worse? A kid running around or a kid having a tantrum? And my son doesn't have "normal" tantrums. He has thermonuclear meltdowns when I've told him no.

All the other times we've been in that branch he wasn't hurt. But the time he was hurt, its MY responsibility? I am not superhuman. I can only do two things at once, and when the teller wanted my attention, I had to turn it away from the kids.

We, my DP and I, believe in natural consequences. If he runs around and gets hurt, that's the natural consequence of running around when he wasn't supposed to. Trust me. He won't be running around that bank again.

[info]bad_service  continue their replies, still with very little of the sympathy this bereaved mother is undoubtedly hoping for.

ETA: [info]customers_suck has got ahold of it. http://community.livejournal.com/customers_suck/15879073.html

EATA: (Edited Again To Add): Damn, it appears to be bahleeted. Hail to [info]wyn for saving it! First Page

HOWEVER...all is not lost! [info]mamid takes it to her own LJ, and ratches the self-pity up another notch! http://mamid.livejournal.com/37778.html. However, the commenting-ability is friends-only. Awww!

-What on earth does "DP" stand for? All I'm coming up with is "dipshit", but I don't think that's what she means.

-If he wasn't supposed to be running around in the bank, why is it somehow the bank's fault that he got hurt? Restraining the kids is YOUR JOB.

-What banks are you going to that have toys for kids? Why not bring, oh, I don't know, YOUR OWN?

Why did God let this woman procreate?

I guess we aren't fixing that problem, then.

I know no mom is Supermom, but generally, I've got five things to do at work, and none of them are supervising your kid.

What's the point of the "my kid's partially deaf" comment?

Is anyone else getting annoyed by the constant "first aide"?

Also, I hope I wasn't the only kid who found banks fascinating for the five minutes I'd have to be in them...

When I was out with my parents, they used to keep me in a harness and reins. That way, I couldn't run around and cause problems or hurt myself, because they were holding on to two-foot long leather straps. Does this never happen any more?

(The chest piece was yellow and had a picture of a deer on it, and it was cute, and, okay, I hated it when I was three, but I never ran around or threw tantrums when I was out.)

When I worked at a bookstore we were forbidden to give any type of first aid to people in our store. We had a large first aid kit in the back room, but under no circumstances were we to give anything to a customer. If it's bad enough that they can't go to the bathroom, or go home, and take care of it, we called an ambulance. I would think they would be more restrictive at a bank, which is more likely to get sued.

What a dumbass.

I was ready to come in on Mom's side with the first-aid thing. There HAS to be a first aid kit on the premises SOMEWHERE. It's the law, at least in this state. Kid busts his head, maybe somebody could give him a Band-Aid? Seems reasonable.

And then I remembered my stint as an accounting clerk.

I remembered the incapacitating paper cuts, the stapled fingers, the fingers in drawers, and all the other stuff you'd THINK an adult with reasonable control over her limbs would be able to avoid. I remembered how precious those Band-Aids were, because when they ran out, it was going to be a few weeks before more got ordered. Suddenly I was on the bank's side again.

Wow, she gets angry a LOT. I wonder where her son could possibly have learned how to throw "thermonuclear meltdowns," seeing as how every post in her LJ is about some agency or person who screwed her over and will now PAY, PAY, THEY'LL ALL PAY!

Wow. This is the height of entitlement. A bank isn't a place to children to play, just because your son is special needs doesn't mean that it's okay to let him run buck wild all over the place, and because a bank is a place that isn't for that, it was, in fact, your responsibility to keep his little ass in line.

If *I* had been that kid my ass would have been whupped.

Also, that C_S post is flocked.

Is she screening comments now in the badservice post? I skimmed through the comments to find something funny to snark at, and now several of them are coming up as (Screened Post).

Now all we need are an "I'm leaving forever!!!" post and a journal deletion, and she'll have gone through the Circle of Wank all in one day. Bravo!

Have any of you called someone whose kid was having a tantrum "abusive"? Because I don't get what she means on page three when she says people say that when her kid has tantrums.

Comments are disappearing liek woah. There were four pages 45 minutes ago, but now there's only 2 pages!

And there's a lovely post from someone, possibly a mod: http://community.livejournal.com/bad_service/699065.html

Mamid...
If you're going to screen or delete comments, maybe you should just delete your entire post.

KTHX.

*EDIT* From the community info page: Leave comments enabled and unscreened on all posts. This isn't your private journal. Let people comment on your posts, or don't post here at all. If you just can't deal with the fact that people want to respond to what you say, turn off e-mail notifications for comments on that entry.

Okay... he got a sucker, but no toys. You know what? It's kind of nice they gave him a sucker. What an entitlement whore.

Apparently she's been featured elsewhere as well!

Man, I'm so sad she's taking away comments. But at least she has no control elsewhere. :-P
