Cute, self-contained little comic artist wannabe wank.
The Pseudome studio projects message boards are an occasionally informative, occasionaly (mildly) wanky place in which "OEL" artists (non-Japanese artists who draw "manga style") gather and discuss the comics industry, give critiques, etc. It's quite a popular board, as several artists currently making books for TokyoPop post there, so it's not unusual for less experienced artists to go there and seek advice, encouragement and what-have-you.
The number of power hitters is presumably what drew Wesley Campbell to the board, though what possessed him to start off his posting career (not to mention his artistic career) with "I am Wesley Campbell, manga artist extraordinaire. I say extraordinaire because my manga work is exceptional. ... I have been drawing mangas for most of my life and it is nothing to me. Manga work comes easy to me as breathing and each day I am only becoming better. I have never officially working in the manga feild before but I have done some freelance manga work for an online "Secret of Mana" MMORPG. This is the start of a new year and I am determined to become a manga artist officially and have children imitate my art work", I'll never know.
Predictably, the other posters immediately question his... extraordinary-ness; in response Wesley complains about their "sassy attitude". The thread got started a couple months ago, then died down until Wesley came back to revive it with his new, improved drawing skills, not to mention more wank, until a mod finally locked the thread a day or so ago.
I just love the smell of hubris in the morning.

Oh yeah, he's Teh Extraordinary Manga Arteest, all right. I've seen better work in the fanart submissions in the backs of Furuba volumes.

Erhm. My friend draws far better than he does and she calls her work sucky. His work is just... well, it's mediocre. It's good for outlines, but it could use detail.

... Okay, excuse me while I go laugh hysterically at him. I'm half expecting him to start proclaiming soon that he knows Japanese manga artists who want to work with him or something.

Yea... your my idol now. The fact that you can use photoshop and the appeal of colors to win your audiance is amazing to me. Your colors are all i really see and what to be able to do becuase... I dont really thing that you have a style of your own muchless a lineart something. [...] I might not be god but I be a swing before I let someone that not in my league put me down and make pokemon cliques at me. MOP... FLOOR.... YOU!!

~splutters~ Oh, yeah, obviously this is so much better than this. It's just the bright, Photoshopped colour in the latter that makes it appear beautiful. Anyway, it's not "manga style", how could it be of any value?

Of course, my drawing expertise is in stick figures and amorphous blob doodles, so it doesn't take much to impress me.

I'm fairly certain there's an inverse correlation between the quality of one's work and the pomposity with which one discusses it. Mr. Campbell illustrates this concept quite well.

...Which is really the only thing he's illustrating well. </lame>

I might like his stuff if his rediculously puffy attitude hadn't prepared me to see something a lot better. No, he's not awful, but he's not great and his stuff looks just like thousands of other amateur manga work I've seen. It's not even good enough to be in a doujinshi. It just looks like he copied long and hard and now is able to draw manga that looks just like the stuff he copied, except not as good. Added to the fact that I'm seriously burnt out on manga styled artwork and really don't care to see any more of it= shut up, little boy.

Manga artist extraordinaire?

Only if the people he draws have seriously deformed legs, even more serious back problems and arms in the wrong places.

Dude, if you know where the lines SHOULD be you can leave them out. Don't leave them out BECAUSE you don't know where they are. You can always see the difference. Manga is not easier to draw because it looks so simple. It is exactly the opposite.
