Freezer - a buffet of manliness! ([info]freezer) wrote in [info]otf_wank,

Oh No They Didn't + $cientology = Free flowing WANK!
[info]glisteningstars posts on ONTD with a 100% gossip-free defense of Scientology... Which apparently is composed solely of info gleaned second-hand from her(?) Scientologist dad.

Seven pages and counting. And there's something for everyone.

Potshots at Tom Cruise? Too many to count.

"They do believe in Xenu. It's all over the net."

"Not all Scientologists are as insane as Cruise": Check and Check

"And pot and acid are like the most non-addictive crugs[sic] so they are extremely easy to get off of."

Obligatory potshot at Christianity: Check

Broad Spectrum Religious Wank (highlighted by [info]at_liberty's "Christianity stole some stuff from Islam too, I think." - Oh, check!

And a tangetal rant about the American two-party system that I lost track of...

And all of this is within the first two pages!

And, in the interest of total disclosure - I'm over here. And since I posted here, instead of [info]i_wank, I shall refrain from responding to the bright young fellow who seems to think most of the reports of Cruise's crazy are made up.

ETA: I just remembered that ONTD is a modded community. Which means the original 100% off-topic post had to get the thumbs-up from a mod to get posted. Which makes me think at least one of the mods there likes a good wank as much as we do.

ETA2: Patched up the HTML.

because maybe he's not. a lot of the shit you her about him never came from his mouth. and pople confuse what scientologist alledgedly do with what tom has actually done.

So jumping up and down on Oprah's couch and over on the Today Show, telling Matt Lauer that he was being glib and didn't understand the history of psychiatry like he (Tom) did was all just an elaborate hoax to make Tom and Scientologists look bad.

It's amazing what they can do with a little audio and video manipulation!

Another thing - I find it so very, very hard to take something seriously when there is more than one misspelling in a single sentence. I must be one of those arrogant poples.

What is it with all Scientology wank lately? Not that I mind or anything, it's just that they always drag in Christianity in as well, in a 'Hey, this major religion is batshit too!'

Not compared to the Scientologists we're not, dammit!

Thing is, it's usually not a Scientologist or even someone sympathetic to them that takes the potshots at Christianity - it's usually someone looking to piggyback an "ALL RELIGION IS A SCAM!" statement that makes them sound all smart and stuff.

Unfortunately yes, there are quite some "lol I'm an athiest which makes me automatically SMRTER than you, u stupid theists now go & pray to your sky daddy kthnx" responses out there.

The batshit and better-than-yous are in every religion and ideology. Ya rly.

Is it bad that I also want to pet the arrogant, pretentious, wanky breeds of atheists? They're like children! So new to the world and how they see everything! Soon they'll actually manage to open their eyes wider and become both embittered and, you know, sane.

After all, it's pretty hard to go your entire life as an atheist without ever meeting reasonable, nice people who don't share your beliefs, being that we are so phenomenally outnumbered and closeted IRL.

::sigh::

Every belief system looks crazy from the outside. Yeah, I'm one of the folks that thinks believing in a zombie savior and omnipotent, omniscient being that cares both about starving children and whether my pitcher throws strikes seems a teeny bit nuts. But I realize that not believing in anything along those lines seems even crazier to a lot more people (not that I come close to thinking majority=right).

That whole "silent birth" thing has me creeped out. I can't imagine not being able to have sworn and cursed at my husband during labour and delivery.

According to their official site it's not completely silent after all. Apparently random screaming is a-okay, so long as it's not actual words. Which seems a bit odd to me. I mean, what if you shout words in a language you're never gonna use with the child? Does that still count?

[info]cat_mcdougall

I'd still lose. I swore at my husband in French, and some random words of Gaekic that I was pretty sure were swear words, but could've been asking for a cup of tea. My children hear French, Gaelic, and Spanish on a regular basis.

Also... if OTwhatever are supposed to have superpowers, why Cruise still uses a stunt?

(Reply to this)(Thread)

[info]omnicrom
2006-04-17 02:58 am UTC (link)
Partly because noone has ever been cleared of enough emgrams to qualify as an Operating Thetan. This is because Operating Thetans are supposed to have superpowers like the greek gods (some Scientology literature seriously claims that the gods of olympus were early scientologists) and those claims could easily be tested and debunked hurting the "church."

Some people have been "Cleared," an in-between state, but the "church" over time has backpedalled on what that meant. Originally you were basically super-human with perfect memory and health. Then a "Clear" couldn't answer a simple memory question like "what color is my shirt." Result: "Clear" has a bunch of benefits that can't be quantified like "better luck."

I think Cruise is a "Clear" mostly I think because of all the free publicity he's making for them. "There's no such thing as bad publicity" as the cliche goes.

My dad believes in not using drugs that you don't necessarily need like anti depressants or Ritalin to heal yourself because they can have really bad side effects.

Yeah, gosh darn those nasty anti-depressant side effects! Getting better! Not trying to chop your own wrists off!
