Kitten + Spider = Wank
almostpretty posts a quote about crantz, who used EDIT: his kitten to bat down a spider:

"So I did the logical thing.

I grabbed my kitten and swiped her through the web until enough of it was gone that I could walk through without touching it. As I left with my stuff, she was on the floor happily purring and eating the spider."

Most people are amused. But not supremegoddess1, who complains that this should be posted to stupid pet owners.. Because this is cat torture and the equivalent of using your toddler as a mop.

Others point and snicker.

I've used my youngest cat as a dust rag before, but this is a cat that is happiest when I pat him pretty hard on the back. It's a win-win situation! I get my cleaning done and the cat gets to play and gets some treats when I'm finished.

My cat adores belly raspberries. He runs up to us and howls, we tell him we're gonna kick him (gently, 'course, because he thinks he's bigger than us and I'm afraid to contradict him), we shove him over, and while the belly torture begins he stretches out and purrs. When we first got him, that was pretty much the only safe way to touch him for any length of time without the claws and the teeth and the angst and the blood and the HEYwhere'smyfinger.

Between the OP and I dunno. Do you think it'd be effective? They lack the fluffyness of the average kitten. I think I'm in love with [info]crantz.

Because this is cat torture and the equivalent fs using your toddler as a mop.

With some toddlers, that's not a bad idea. /bitch

Yes, but what about those which aren't toddling yet? You put a crawler in mittens and send them across the kitchen floor twice and it's like a good sweeping.

My mom's old cat actively sought out spiderwebs to eat. She wouldn't have minded cleaning them up at all.

And for years Mom didn't have to clean up any of the cat's hairballs, because the dog had no problem doing so. :D

there's a reason we were told NOT TO MESS WITH THEM.

You know, I had ketchup once. On a burger, with many fries. The burger was grilled and vegan, on a whole wheat bun, with pickles and mustard, it was pretty good. But I didn't eat it all and decided it would be leftovers. And now I dead from Heinz.

Things I have learned from the Brown Recluse catfight/subthread.

1) Brown Recluses may not be the deadly flesh rotting terrors I thought they were.

2) ...oh shit, nevermind. Apparently army officials beg to dissagree!

3) You should not kill the harmless spiders in your home, because they will prey on those horrific flesh rotting Umbrella Corp created arachnids, so your kitten does not have to. At least, that's what the University of Kentucky has to say on such matters.

It's not about them getting bitten, it's about using a living creature as a cleaning tool. Would you use your human infant to clean a spiderweb?

I tell my kid to squash spiders all the time. I also tell him to mow the lawn, take out the trash, and do the dishes. Somtimes I make him wash my car.

Am I going to hell now?
