Pregnancy wank in customers_suck
allthepettylies posts this little story in customers_suck.

Me: your lurvely prego assistant customer service whore manager
DOB: Dumb old bitch. DIE!

I seriously doubt my baby belly is showing already..but whatever.
This happened yesterday..

Me: *lalalala* ::wandering around being a good stuporvisor::
DOB: ::waddles over:: EXCUSE ME! I WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAD X ITEM?!
Me: ::turns around:: Yes ma'am, its over on x aisle.
DOB: ::not yelling now:: Thank you. So when is the little bundle due.
Me:.....uh.....O.o ::sweatdrop:: I'm sorry?
DOB: ::yelling again:: WELL YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY PREGNANT WHEN IS IT DUUUUUE?
Other customers: ::stop and stare::
Me: Not for a while now. :;smile:: What about you? Twins or triplets?
DOB: ::shock:: Well!! ::hmph:: ::leaves::

::palmface::
Not really suck, but a WTF moment that had me sulking angrily for a while.

All is well, she receives "WTF indeed", "good response", "what an impolite bitch" comments, until hatsumomo jumps in.

I don't see what's so bad about the first story. She was just asking when you were due and you basically called her fat? O_o

Which might be a valid question and first the discussion is on a rational level of "Just a question" vs. "privacy invasion."

dianawinters and musical_soul point out here and here that it this is simply nothing to ask a pregnant woman.

And hatsumomo swings the childfree hammer!

I guess i've missed out on this whole "OMGZ NEVER ASK A WOMAN WHEN SHE IS DUE" part of life. Or maybe the people i've grown up with/lived with/interacted with aren't so uptight.

And:

I can't say I've ever heard that saying, and i've never known a pregnant woman who didn't like to blab on and on and on about when wittle pweshus is due.

So ... on the one hand it is uptight if people are offended if they are asked but they blab on and on when they are not and talk about it on their own? Well, breeders can't do anything right anyway, as we all know by now.

hatsumomo: Wah wah wah. Pregnant women obviously deserve special treatment and exceptions when they are being assholes because they are pregnant.

 geek-domestic: Where did I say pregnant women deserve special treatment? Anybody can be an asshole, pregnant or not.

"She could have been raped! It's not your business!!!"

"Pregnancy is WONDERFUL don't degrade it to a taboo!!!"

Of course it is all due to culture:

hatsumomo: The fact that almost everyone on this comm disagrees with me on it too, and they are from a different side of the Atlantic confirms this to me further. I can't succesfully debate with someone who feels completely differently to me regarding this subject, and vice versa.

Indeed. You US people are so straaaange to us Oldworlders. Here, pregnant women have to answer every question they are asked and have to carry all their shopping bags three miles over parking lots. By law. Because we're special like that.

It's only a medium sized wank but the OP adressed it in a later post in the comm, let's keep an eye on that.

I'm reeeeaaaaalllly sorry I don't like people sticking their noses into my business, next time someone happens to screech "OMGWTFBBQ WHEN ARE YOU DUUUUUUUUUUE!?!?" at me, I will whip out sonograms, development charts, and quote them the EXACT DATE I'M DUE Even thought I'm BARELY a month along, and not showing. At all.

Sorry if I seem a bitch. I never once said DOB was rude, I just thought it was a WTF moment.

EDIT: Aaaaand she's off yet again. Also she's outed there a cf_hardcore member. *fakes surprise*

You'd think this would fall under a general rule of "don't make assumptions about people if you don't know their circumstances." Apparently not.

I always thought Dave Barry phrased it best:

"You should never, ever assume that a woman is pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment."

Hatsumomo is obnoxious, but the OP grates as well. I seriously doubt the old woman came up to her and screeched "When are you duuuuuuuuuue!" and the phrasing makes it really hard for me to take her seriously (which may be my issues more than hers; I don't know). I mean, really, I understand they're ranting, but a lot of the posters on Customers Suck come off so hyperbolic - I mean, it's like in their view of the universe 99% of shoppers (a) have IQs of 10, (b) have 18 bratty children who they don't control, and (c) speak three or four octaves higher than the norm. And ALL customers have evil intentions, no matter what; they are NEVER simply misguided or uninformed. No such thing as good faith or reasonable mistakes in the Customers Suck universe.

Well, yeah, but that's why it's customers_suck, and not, customers_are_usually_bearable, or customers_are_often_okay.

Some of the stories sound hyperbolic to me, or I think, "Well, I've done that, it could just be a mistake." But given what I've dealt with working in the service industry, most of them don't. People are insaaaane.

Dear OP: Being asked when you're due when you're pregnant isn't weird or embarrassing. Being asked when you're due when you're NOT pregnant is weird and embarrassing. Take it from someone who got asked just because of the way she walked.

Oh, that sucks. I'm sorry.

I must say, though, it is pretty weird to be asked if you're pregnant if you're a month along. Almost no one gains any perceptible weight by then.

A few years back when those babydoll-style shirts were in style (again), I must have gotten asked that question at least a thousand times. And sometimes by people who had seen me the day before, in different clothes. WTF.

I got asked why I was in a maternity shop once by the shop assistant who'd assumed I was simply fat, just because I carried my son differently than most do. (rather than the abdomen being 'stuck out' and therefore obvious, it was more 'inside' if that makes any sense) She was more embarrassed than I was when I told her I was pregnant.

Of course, my brain cells were fried that day cuz I didn't really understand what was going on until after I'd thought about it, so that was more why I wasn't as embarrassed but hey, it happens. (of course, being deaf/severely hearing impaired may have had a hand in that, but yeah...*smiles*)

Well...I think the OP took the comment about "when are you due" kind of hard, but if she wasn't showing yet, I can see how it would be an embarrassing question. I'm not all that fond of the OP's tone, really. But it's not a sign of her Pregnant Woman Privelege. >.>

If not...

maybe I'm weird, (and I probably am) but I never got offended by people asking me when I was due with my first. In fact, I'd be really happy if someone noticed I was pregnant now with my second since I never lost all my previous baby weight. Because pregnant > fat ass

While I can kind of see both sides, both the wankers were annoying. However, I find myself enjoying pregnancy wank more now than ever. Those damned pregnancy hormones can really bring the wank to the yard.
