Nazi Tweenyboppers are All Alike...
From [info]metaquotes: [info]maxxim_huzzah posts a quote about Girlie Bands and Satanic Hair. It is funny, and some people laugh.

Other people gripe about how tweenyboppers are the downfall of western civilization. Includes a fascinating debate over whethertweenyboppers are worse than nazis.

[info]sys_64738 wins as follows:

What do children who are minorities think when they see a group touting individualism and diversity when they're all essentially the same?

"Goths."

I was gonna post this, but I've been posting quite a bit lately, and didn't want to come across as some sort of wank whore. :)

To the subject at hand, I think those who are all "You think neo-Nazi are better than bubblegum pop?" are missing the point spectacularly. What I keep seeing is "As abhorent as I find Prussian Blue, at least they're upfront about their motivations, as opposed to Girl Athourity's 'Hey, we celebrate diversity! We have our own (half) minority!'"

Perhaps I'm interrogating this wank yadda yadda yadda...

Note to OP over at [info]metaquotes:

Ugh, warn a reader, will you? Here I click on the link in "problems with teh minorities" expecting an article about a good juicy catfight, and I get what sounds like "BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM Uh huh this my tip, all us girlies sing like shit!"

My ears, they bleed.

I must be a masochist, becasue I listened to the entire "Shop Around" clip, cringing the entire time. How the hell can anyone listen to clips like that and come to the conclusion that the group isn't manufactured?

I was in a Walmart (I know, shame, but it wasn't my fault) last week and saw their CD. I picked it up out of some sort of masochistic trainwreck syndrome, or something, and dropped it back onto the shelf like it had burned me. Yes, we are so diverse in our whiteness and stereotyped "personalities"!

Is this group anything like the manufactured J-Pop girl bands? By which I mean do the J-Pop bands try to pretend that they're not manufacutred, but friends who just happened to get scouted and hired as a band? And with each girl being neatly labeled and categorized?

Yeah, only they sing even worse and all their songs are karaoke-style remakes of pop songs.

Sounds like it.

At least with Morning Musume, you know it's manufactured. And the members learn to sing over time.

From the music-spewing flash homepage of the group (emhpasis added):
Girl Authority: Real Girls for Your Girls. [*snicker*]

It’s a complicated world out there for those of us with daughters. We want our girls to take up space in the world, laugh out loud, sing joyfully, dance like they mean it, and, above all, respect and celebrate who they are. Girl Authority girls are, quite literally, the girls next door. Like your girls, they go to school, develop and sustain friendships, have lots of different interests and hobbies, and navigate the waters of growing up. Unlike many pre-packaged musical acts, the Girl Authority girls are a group of real friends who happen to love singing, dancing, and each other. [AHAHAHAHA!!!!] They are girls like yours.

From Girl Authority's Front Page

Do you like to hang out with your best friends? Sing? Dance? Giggle? Whisper secrets? Have fun all day long? Then come on in, because we’re girls just like you!

Wow ... it's like a celebration of vapidness in pretty purple font!

Prussian Blue is a pair of blonde-blue eyed tween girls from Bakersfield, California, who sing Neo-nazi songs.

Girl Authority dresses to display things that they shouldn't be showing, in most cases don't have yet, and in some won't have for several years. Prussian Blue manages to keep their clothes on.

So, being scantily clad is worse than being a Nazi?

But they are diverse! Only two of them have the same Zodiac sign as each other!

...which weirds me out somewhat. When I was at school, half of my friends were born in the same month. The non-sharing of star signs seems rather... convenient.
