[info]cf_hardcore is frequently home to some unpopular rants. Mostly though, the folks in [info]cf_hardcore agree with one another. Well, this time [info]foulmouthedb posts a rant that even the hardcore find appalling. It's little, but really quite amusing.

ETA: [info]symbeline is spooging all over my thread. Anybody got a mop?

I mostly agree. There are dozens of organizations that cater to missing-kid crap. I would rather see real news on the news.

Missing people are real news, but feel free to wank away.

Sshhhhh! Don't poke the crazy with a stick! You might end up missing--or worse, on the news. *cue music of doom*

But the crazy came to ME!! It's not my fault! Plus, I have kids which would be mentioned on the news I'm sure, and spark wank. The cycle would continue!

Meh. I would rather hear about important news. What's going on in the Sudan. The political unrest in Nepal or France. Gay rights progress in Canada and the UK.

That would be world news, usually on at a different time from local news. And to the families of the missing people? Their relatives are important too. I know it's difficult to consult more than one news source, but most of us manage to do so quite easily, what with the Internet, newspapers and cable and satellite radio all at our fingertips.

Then by the exact same token, missing kids should only be on the local news in the area where they came from or went missing, not on every local news station in the country.

Sometimes missing people are taken across state lines, shocking I know. Not to mention that people can have ties to more than just the area they live in currently.

I find it difficult to believe that missing kids have ties to every town that carries the story.

Almost 900,000 people went missing in 2000, and that's just counting cases reported to the FBI.

Should they all be on CNN? A single missing person just isn't national news (unless that person is a national figure).

I think the OP's post on [info]cf_hardcore was disgusting, but it must be the unstated attitude of the public at large or the Holloway case wouldn't be on that national news shows at all.

Real news like:
Rolling skating parrots
President Bush condemns/approves of something
Big Overblown movie making lots of Big Overblown money
Guy invents something useless but clever
Gas is expensive

Why isn't there ever wank about that?

Televised news is entertainment, has been for years. Pick up a newspaper.

Missing kids falls into the same category with all that other stuff. More real news would be better. They could scrap all the unnecessary junk news.

You want to make me? Anyway, my points are perfectly valid. Random missing kids don't need national media coverage. There are vastly more important issues out there.

No, your point is wanky. You are wanky. And now I'll just edit my post to make sure everyone can see your wankiness and be amused.

I'm sorry, but if you went missing, possibly kidnapped, wouldn't you want people to know so they could look for you? A lot of the time, when someone is found, it's because some citizen saw them, and they knew about it from the news.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]symbeline

But that's what the police are for and all those missing persons organizations too.

The police can't be everywhere. If a bunch of people see the picture of a missing person on the news, that person is far more likely of being spotted on the streets.

see, this is why we need 1984 to happen, people. then we can all watch the good news and people will only go missing when the government wants them to. <3
