Childfree Mother's Day wank [it had to come sooner or later]

customers_suck is at it again!

yamino_tora proudly reports her smacking down of an "elderly gentleman" who DARED to wish her a "happy Mother's Day."

I looked right at him, tears welling up in my eyes. "Well, I would have been, if I hadn't miscarried."

Total bullshit, but the look on his face was priceless.

Yeah, one more elderly gentlemen who runs around and patronizes childfree people  by wishing them a nice day down! Way to go.

Or not? customers_suck goes asplody, two pages of comments and going steady.

We have people who have no clue what she's on about.

Er, I don't see anything sucky about wishing someone a happy holiday.

We have the voice of reason.

But my take on the whole thing is, when someone wishes you a Happy Mother's Day, or Merry Christmas, or Happy Easter, or whatever, they're trying to be nice. Yes, in some cases there are probably reasons why mentions of Mother's Day are hurtful (mother is deceased or estranged, etc), but the customer had no way of knowing that.

We have, surprise, the childfree people. With extra oppresshun.

Sure, his intent was probably to be nice. But how does he know if your mother is okay, or that just because you're a woman of child bearing age that you will automatically have a kid.

There's alot of CF hate going around lately....

*sheds a tear and digs out the world's smallest violin*

Ahem.

We have the cultural differences.

I thought the miscarriage comment was priceless myself :)

Obviously I come from a different culture from most of the other commenters, because I can't see a problem with being offended by someone wishing you Happy mothers day when you're not a mother. It's inappropriate. It's not a generic holiday like Independence day that (I assume?) applies to everyone in the US - it's something that children should wish to their mothers, possibly that fathers should wish to the mother of their offspring, maybe grandkids to grandmothers, but otherwise? Simply irrelevant!

We have hilarity.

Basic (polite) human interaction 101:
Person #1: Nice weather we're having today?
Person #2: Don't be such a douchebag. Obviously, you're too stupid to see that I have my own, personal, little black raincloud of misery above my head. I'm glad it's nice where you are, dick but it sucks here so STFU
Person #2: Yes, very!

Person #1: Happy Mother's/Father's/Sister's/Brother's Day!
Person #2: Well, I would have been, if I hadn't miscarried/ Well, It would have been had my child not screamed "I HATE YOU!!" and then ran away and got eaten by a band of rabid wolves/ It might be if my sibling didn't eat babies for lunch every day. I mean seriously, you're so ignorant to assume that I might want to have a nice day too!
Person #2: Thanks, you too!

Person #1: Good morning
Person #2: There's nothing good about it. I woke up this morning and stubbed my toe on the wall of my shitty apartment, then I killed fifty cockroaches, got fired from my job, found my lover fucking my new puppy and then shat myself right before you spoke to me. HOW DARE YOU!
Person #2: Good morning

Person #1: Happy Valentine's Day
Person #2: Well, it would have been had the love of my life not broken up with me then jumped out a window onto a freeway and died a horrible, bloody death just ten seconds ago, asshole.
Person #2: Thanks, you too!

Everything a wanker dreams of in one post. I wish you a good night. Oh shit, some of you aren't in my culture, err timezone. SO SORRY!11!

EDIT: Bahleeted, oh noez. I had a window still open so you can find the (large) screenshot of page 2 here.

Yet another priceless example of why sane people who don't want kids scorn the term "childfree".

*insert my standard raving about rabid, idiot CFers here*

In other news, whatever happened to decorum? Instead of making up a horrible lie and hiding behind some quasi-feminist, childfree stance she could have just said: "oh, thank you, but I'm not a mother" if it was so insulting to her for someone to OMGZ assume she was one. Or, y'know, she could have just said thank you and got the fuck on with her day. There's no way that old man wrecked her day, but you best believe she wrecked his.

Since when does wishing someone a Happy Mothers' Day have anything to do with them being a mother?

As much as I think the OP was out of line. Huh? My entire extended family was over for brunch and the only people who got wished a Happy Mothers Day were the mothers. My grandmother said it to me, and my own mom, aunt, and uncle were like, "You can't wish her that!" I've never heard of anyone wishing someone a Happy Mothers' Day who wasn't a mother, even outside my family. I am boggled.

And when someone wishes me a happy mother's day, I blush and think "Wow, I keep forgetting I'm not 12 anymore, I could be a mom!" and say "Thanks, you too." Personally, I think saying "happy mother's day!" to a stranger is near to saying "wow what a slimming outfit!" While it doesn't sound like a mean thing to say, it kind of translates to "and you look so fat every other day/you need to lose weight/god damn that's a big fat ass."

Wow, color me ignorant. I thought it meant something totally different.

Maybe next time that guy should try wishing her a Happy Crazy Bitch Day.

[wank] WTF, man. I admit that I feel a bit awkward when people wish me a Happy Easter, for example, 'cause I'm an atheist and don't celebrate it (and it's not really a 'semi-secular bunny holiday' here where I live, people who DO celebrate it properly tend to be rather serious about religion and all), BUT I DON'T SAY NASTY STUFF TO THEM. They're just being nice, for sanity's sake. Hell, people aren't psychic, they can't possibly know EVERYTHING about my life/views/etc. It's not a fucking big deal. *sighs* Whew. I'm a childfree young adult (and yes, I get OMG PRRSICUTED!!11 from time to time, LOL), but sometimes I think that many (not all, of course) CFs make some of their problems sound too fucking serious when in reality, they AREN'T. But no, with some CFs it seems like slavery AND Holocaust are BAAAAAAAAACK. *spits thrice* [/wank]

Eh, my eight year old cousin wished me Happy Mother's day, and when I explained that I wasn't a mother, he shrugged and told me I could still have a happy day anyway. This chick is taking this waaaay too seriously,

Well, I did work Mother's Day along with many other moms at my workplace and I had many a caller on the phone say 'Happy Mother's Day' with a couple adding 'If that applies'. Same happened at my other jobs I've had be it before the kids and after and each time I said a polite thank you.

Maybe it's just me but I just look at it as a well wishing that one has a pleasant day.

Whoa... is [info]customers_suck the new [info]fanficrants?

That said, I do think it was kinda weird of the guy to tell her "Happy Mother's Day." However, her reaction was kinda WTF.
