Current mood:*sporfle!*

The Detroit City Club is an, I dunno, goth club. In Detroit, I suppose. A blogger named Ken, of My Nemesis*, wrote a heavily Fight Club-influenced tale of a night there.
DCC patrons: OMG.(NSFW on second page, near bottom.)
He's pretentious!, [summary], The first rule of City Club is..., Ken posts., OMG he looks like a rapist! ,Don't you have anything else to do?
Ken's response to their response: LOL.
I'm still trying to figure out what an "Indie Kid" is, and why they're calling him it.
*One of the best comics you're not reading, IMHO.

No one knows, as they're bartending in the dark.

An indie kid is an emo kid with about forty times the pretention factor and dressed in more black.

And that guy fails at Chuck Palahniuk.

How is that possible? On a quantum level, I mean.

It's not something that science has figured out yet, but I imagine that it may have something to do with black holes.

Less black, but more retro '80s clothes and "vintage look" overly mismatched 'look how unique I am!' things.

But I gotta agree with the pretention factor. Sheesh, I'm in indie music fandom, and I want to punch most other people in it in the face all half the time.

*snickers* That's true, an Indie Kid'll pay $80 for a t-shirt that looks like it's been hit by a train rather than just pay $12 for one that just looks, y'know, new.

Hey! I almost went to City once. And then I remembered that I don't like goth kids, I don't like clubs, and I didn't like the person who invited me. So I didn't go.

That said, I think Ken's response in the forums was a little wanky, but I liked the short story.

Ok, you may want to put a NSFW warning on this. The NSFW-ness is on the second page, near the bottom.

Now I must go rinse out my eyes with bleach.

Yes, you did, so you should know that, technically, it should be either "Please DON'T furbash or troll. I mean it." (with "Anybody want a peanut?" as a purely optional response) or "Again, no furbashing."

Please, no wikibashing.

I dunno. I actually kind of liked the story.

I do have to say those who are calling it pretentious are missing the entire point of the story.

I kind of liked it too, though I haven't read the author(s) he's imitating... and I didn't even really see the point of it as bashing that club per se. But if he's naming the place and getting a bunch of facts wrong about it (such as the ability to hook up in the bathrooms) then I can't blame people for calling him on it, and his follow-up is a little wanky.

But maybe I'm interrogating something from the wrong perspective.

I would assume the point it's trying to make has to do with *learning* from the realization that you're an asshole and curving the temptation to judge people preemptively. But whatever. I'm just here for the wank. 8-)
