FPB FTW! Er...
I almost hesitate to draw attention to this, as [info]fpb must be dreadfully chafed already, but this time I think he's really pushing for the stars. He's managed to offend [info]dreamer_marie, a woman who is known for her even temper, who is (well, was) one of his friends, and who has defended him in the past.

[info]fpb would appear to have made disparaging comments about the Netherlands in the past, but things really get kicked off when he titles a post about a controversy surrounding the Dutch MP, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, with a half-serious, "It is sometimes hard to believe in God when certain nations are never visited by plague and fire."

[info]dreamer_marie politely requests that he rephrase the sentence, objecting to the idea of directing such maliciousness toward an entire country for something that one segment of government has done, and he replies, "Rephrase the decision to defame and expel Ayaan Hirsi Ali and I shall rephrase my post." From there, we are off!

[info]fpb posts a response specific to [info]dreamer_marie, in which he comes up with a new reason to generalize hatred for policies to hatred for an entire populous: legalized euthanasia! "If you don't want to be despised, don't be despicable," he advises Marie. In the comments, he adds,

Too much time has been spent being polite to the Dutch and their fellow mass murderers in Belgium, Norway, Oregon, and soon Spain. To be polite to people who have deliberately committed themselves to the abomination of systematized murder is to do them a disfavour: to preserve them in the delusion that what they are doing is nothing special, that they have not crossed the line between selfishness and atrocity, that what they do is something that can be discussed in a light and polite tone, like a change in accounting practice or administrative law. It is not: it is mass murder.

I hear they also kick puppies and dine nightly upon sauteed baby flesh! Damn the Dutch!

In our third post, [info]fpb asks whether he should have been polite to someone who, being a Dutchwoman, might someday have her parents killed. (look towards the bottom)

[info]dreamer_marie shits a brick and reports him for libel and hatespeech.

[info]fpb finishes off with a gentle squeeze and a bit of a rant.

Oooh...spooge.

ETA: I hear this already made [info]wank_report, and I flubbed in posting this the first time (posted it to F_W, wtf?). I apologise ahead of time for any incompetence--I'm a complete neophyte at JF.

Oh, haven't you heard? They're not just mass murderers, the Netherlands are also characterized by, "their contempt for human life, their money-minded collectivism, their unspeakable cowardice and collaborationism in the face of evil."

I don't get that logic: aren't there people in the Netherlands who'd be against legalised euthanasia as well? Surely lumping them in with the pro-euthanasia supporters is a bit generalising?

(BTW, we also have legalised euthanasia here in the Northern Territory, but given that most of the politicians here don't really count that as part of Australia I suppose we don't count.)

I would imagine there must be. And though I'm against legalized euthanasia for a variety of reasons, in my experience people who support it do so out of compassion, not out of being mass-murderers.

I don't often feel like "Get off my side, you're making my side look bad" but this guy is being a total prick.

As a Dutch citizen, [info]dreamer_marie will, if her parents live long enough, be eventually asked to consent to their murder; this is certain.

And as a German citizen, I will, if I ever become pregnant, be eventually asked to consent to an abortion.

Or something.

You know, the worst thing I ever found about the Dutch was their incessant rambling about Europe every weekend in their be-damned caravans. (campers) Miles upon miles of caravans/campers with Dutch plates are scary to behold. *shudders at the memories* They rarely venture as far north as Scotland tho. *sigh of relief*

It was just sad that at one stretch of the E-whatever-the-hell-it-is coming up from Luxembourg thru Belgium, there used to be (dunno bout now) constant car accidents (about every week for about 2 months at one time) either caused by or involving said Dutch caravans.

We're, er, sorry?

No wait. We're not. If he thinks that abortion and euthanasia are like mass murder the boy needs to have a lot of books about Dutch laws chucked at his head.

Or on his head. From a great heighth.

Also, Ayaan has NOTHING to do with abortion and euthanasia anyway! She's all about immigrants and integration and things like that!

A Dutchman. A Dutchman would think otherwise. A Dutchman would think that the proper reward for the life his parents gave him is a bullet through the head, or rather, since that is what we are talking about, a lethal injection. A Dutchman would think that the proper reward is not to look after your father after his fourth heart attack, or your mother under advanced Parkinson's, but to let them die. Die with dignity, they call it.

Must not wank. Must. Not. Wank. *resists*

I'm just going to flail incoherently and wish for a very localised plague and rain of fire to visit this raving nutjob. Gah!

I'd like to introduce [info]fpb to a friend of my family who spent the last three months doing nothing but looking after her dying mother. The entire thing ended up with everyone miserable. The mother was in pain fairly often and terrified and paranoid pretty much all the time, as she'd constantly wake up not knowing where she was or what was going on. When she was coherent and awake, she spent a lot of time just begging to die.

Euthanasia is a very personal thing, but calling anyone who agrees with it certain cases a "mass-murderer" is just plain stupid.

Oh, FPB... what can one say?

It's a complex issue, with a lot of different things to look at. There's plenty of scope for people to draw negative conclusions about the practice and ideas. I myself am less than thrilled with the Netherlands' example here. But calling the Dutch mass-murderers?

What does he think that will achieve, anyhow?
