The one place I see it being different (and this is because of the brilliant change LJ recently made in this area) is that when someone clicks on one of their interests to see who else has that interest users are now shown with their default icons rather than in a list. Which isn't an issue if one is clicking on 'moms' or 'breastfeeding' or, say, 'new_parents' but could be if one is looking for 'harry_potter' or 'narnia' or 'childrens_books' since those searchers may well be younger. That's the one reason I can see for the default icon having a different standard. Other than that? It seems rather silly to deem 'inappropriate' a picture of an activity that can be performed in public.
