This Just In: Knitwear Designer Acts Like 13-year-old Fanfic Writer
My apologies for the slight staleness of this wank. A little Febreeze should take care of that.

You Knit What? is a blog devoted to knitted designs that have excelled in the areas of impracticality, ugliness, and/or excessive use of Fun FurTM. Snarky fun is had by all, but, predictably, some are not amused.

Among the unamused is a knitwear designer who wrote a post expressing his displeasure at You Knit What?. A designer who also happens to have designed a particularly impractical pair of knitted shorts with "K. 1" stitched across the ass. (I couldn't make this shit up if I tried.)

I think you can guess what happens next.

(Sorry, I can't link directly to the Java-hell of the comments, nor is there any link from the actual post [WTF?]. To get to the comments link, go to the main You Knit What? page and scroll down one post. ETA: Or, you can use this direct link to the comments provided by [info]smut_queen. Thanks!)

All is well and fun in comment-land until the aformentioned designer of said shorts appears. At first, he merely posts anon with this little statement:

Just curious...where'd you get the picture? Cuz it's not the one in the magazine. And usually only people on the photo shoot or people DIRECTLY involved with the magazine are allowed access to these images. Hm......looks like I have to do some digging. I'll let ya know what I found out. Since it's illegal and all. Just sayin'

Robin points out that "If you're going to call yourself "anon," you probably shouldn't bother linking to your homepage." Others give links to where the picture came from.

Jon (Not the designer, just a "friend") fires back with this gem:

Contrary to what you "women" think, those shorts are rather utilitarian and I'm going to knit some.

They are certainly better than the travesties women try to pawn off on each other like shrugs, legwarmers and wristlets.

And yes, I'll put my blog addy on here. I don't give a flying flock about what any of you say about me.

Ninabeena chimes in with these words, which could easily have been lifted from any Suethor complaining on [info]deleterius:

What is wrong with you people? Does it not feel horrible to be jerks EVERYDAY? Please tell me that for the other 23 hrs you actually do something positive and constructive that builds people up instead of tears them down. I just couldn't imagine being this way...

Then, The Designer returns just to break TSC's Law:

And I love criticism. And I also love all the traffic my usually boring blog has been getting lately. Keep up the good work, ladies!

Which is why I personally have the bad ass balls to put my real website, my real email, and all that jazz. I know how to hit delete, I know how to smile, I know how to say, "yeah, I think that sucks, too, but that's what I got PAID A LOT OF MONEY to do", and most importantly, I love fucking with people. Even if they can't spell.

In closing, I give you The Irony Award comment for the thread, from another defender:

I'll probably check back to see if there were any more responses to this (for some horribly sick reason) but beyond that, I can't waste my energy on this place. I've actually been doing well at cutting drama OUT of my life.

Disclaimer: Could it be grudge-snark from You Knit What? Possibly, in which case it's wank all around! But, damn, those are some ugly shorts....

ETA 09/06: You Knit What? is no longer being updated. They are leaving the snark in situ for the edification of future generations of knitters, so hopefully the links above will continue to work.

Yeah, those shorts aren't doing that model any favors at all. He should take them off. He should take them off right now.

I'll wait.

Hee! I was going to post this one myself. People get way too worked up over YKW. I mean, does anyone think any stars freak out when they're featured on Go Fug Yourself? Of course not. If you're going to be in the public eye there are going to be detractors.

And really, if your design is picked by Knit.1, you're just asking for ridicule. I think they've printed about two wearable designs total.

I had to stop there before my eyes rolled out of my head. Look, dislike a site if you want to, even hate it. That's your right. But you couldn't BRING yourself to even link to them? Get over it, for heaven's sake.

That guy makes no sense to me. Criticizing ugly, useless clothes means you have no talent yourself? And what is with his insistence that everyone there must be obsessed with top-down raglans in stockinette? Although honestly, given the choice between that and one of those idiotic ugly pieces of avant guard crap, I'd choose the stockinette raglan in a heattbeat . . . because it's wearable!

So, apparently, by extending his logic a bit (well maybe not since sadly, GFY doesn't allow commenting anymore), he is unable to design any clothes whatsoever and prefers the simple black formal dress. Bitch.

I can knit and crochet, but I don't have the patience to knit very much or very often. (I made a sock once!) I have seen a lot of patterns for really strange things on the internet though, like knitted penis-cozies, knitted uterus dolls, and crocheted vagina purses. The cat bikini is a new one, though.
