DA is serious business
Over on DA, Snapesnogger makes a journal post about how her all-nighter art project didn't get such a warm reaction from her teacher.

Over on LJ-comm devart_horrors, weavermage makes a post bitching about SS's attitude. eta which is now baleeted, but here is a helpful screenie of the post (thank you [info]jezepuff)

SS finds out.

And they're off!

Artists are fandom, right? *oft-wanks just in case*

Being annoyed that people want ego-stroking in their journals is like being annoyed that water is wet. It just is.

As for the LJ comm... welcome to the internet. This is where people get away with group bullying because nobody can physically go and knock some sense into them. That comm is just like Fandom Wank, only the targets are different. Ignore them. People who are members of those sorts of communities are still struggling with schoolyard bully syndrome, and need to stomp on other people to feel better about themselves. Even if they insist otherwise - it's a subconscious thing, not conscious.

-Madcarrot (DA)

Remember kids, f_w is about subconcious bullying. *nods* Because, ya know, pointing and laughing at other people's stupidity is exactly like bullying.

I'm surprised we don't see journals like "I dropped a spoon, goddamn I hate silverware, it's so lame" from her..because it can't get much more innate.

They're using this word "innate". I do not think it means what they think it means.

From the comments to Snapesnogger's original post:

Ya see...this is why homeschool is better, you don't have to deal with stupid opinionated teachers.

You don't have to deal with opinionated teachers...for art class. Riiiight. That must do wonders for your craft.

They have home schooling for college now, too? Damn, that must be a bitch working on transferring those credits so the course actually shows up on your transcript.

I kind of sympathize with Snapesnogger about the teacher thing (Though I do think she's being overly whiny about it.). I had a pretty crappy art teacher in high school, though the problem was very different. Our art teacher decided that the art class needed to be in charge of the schools web page, and there for the only thing that mattered was the school web page which put those of us who were in the class to you know, draw, paint, or were not computer savvy (I was both) were kind of in bind. a group of students tried to discus it with her on our own, but eventually we ended up taking it to the principal. Afterward we were given given our own space to work on our art while the majority of the class went to the computer labs, and were ignored by the teacher for pretty much the rest of the year. We considered it a victory.

Sure, high school art class is one thing. Very few people are going to actually be good, it doesn't matter whether or not they are, so as long as they put in a good effort and study enough to pass the written tests, who cares.

But Snapesnogger said this was her "college" art professor. Unless that means something different in Australia, I assume she's in University majoring in art. In which case, it's her teacher's responsibility to ride her like Seabiscuit (as they say). The art world is really competitive and it's not an easy place to make a career in. I'd want teachers who either busted my ass and got me to the top of my game or made me realize that I couldn't hack it and should find a different major for my own good. Coddling students at that stage is doing them a disservice.

I had a friend once who wanted to be an artist, but didn't want to take art classes, because the teacher would make her draw things she didn't want to, critique her style, all that horrific and annoying stuff.

I realized said friend didn't want to be an artist. She wanted to draw things and have other people fangirl her for it.

I hated my high school art teacher. We'd be doing projects and stuff and I'd ask for her opinion on something or other, to see what I needed to work on to make it better, and she'd tell me it was really good and she liked this and this and this and it was just great...and then I'd hand the thing in and get a C+ on it and a paragraph of 'here's what's wrong with it.' Like, why didn't you tell me that before I turned it in, when I asked and could still fix it? It drove me nuts.

A whole lot of art teachers are irrational assholes, I'm well aware. But, uh, often when you do a big project at the last minute? The result sucks, and you fail, and that has nothing to do with the teacher's irrational assholeness. Gasp! Shock!
However, the refusing to mark it at all part does sound like sheer unnecessary cocklobsterage. If it's failing work, you can do your damn job and give it the failing mark. If you just don't like it for some arbitrary personal reason and refuse to mark it because of that, you're a jackass.

And of course if I did something dumb like that and failed, I'd post about it and want some "That sucks" and "Yeah, I did something like that once and failed too" and other general sympathy from the other art-slackers. Anyone would. But getting comments this damned stupid would just be irritating as hell. Asskissing from total morons isn't going to make me feel like I'm superior and clearly in the right, which I know damn well I'm not...it's going to make me depressed because apparently my work appeals mainly to people who are low in the braincell department. Why do people want and encourage those sorts of fans, anyway?

Okay, I obviously missed the part where people explain why Snapesnogger's "Oh shit, I fucked up!" post was equivalent to YOU SUCK COCKS AND HERE'S WHY. Are people really bagging her for the shit her fans are spewing instead of any opinions she might be giving herself?

I can't wait for the day when Snapesnogger finally meets a real life art editor. She pitched a fit when one art gallery site asked her to resize her artwork from friggin' gigantic to merely large, god knows what she'll do when someone asks for major content changes or total redraws (or, y'know, for a character to ever sport a nose).

I could almost, almost get behind Snapesnogger's artwork--I mean, the non-naga!mpreg!porn is kind of cute--except for her attitude. It totally turns me off. Kind of like Cho Jisuk--some of the art is good, but the artist herself is just obnoxious.
