Nazis, Muslims and Burger King for COH segregation!
Come with me, if you will, to the world of City of Heroes, a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online RolePlaying Game) for folks who like spandex and books with pictures.

Now this MMORPG has a rather large LiveJournal presence. There are communities for fanart and fanfiction, separate communities for individual servers, and probably a great many smaller offshoots if I cared to go looking (which I don't). There is also a "main" CoH community called, appropriately enough, [info]city_of_heroes.

About eight months ago, an off-shoot of City of Heroes (very creatively named "City of Villains") was released. This is a separate game, in that you don't have to have CoH to play it. It has its own character types and powers and blah blah blah. However, it's also combined, as having both games unlocks additional and cross-game content, the game mechanic is the same, and the two groups play on the same servers (a hero side and a villain side). Prior to release, a CoV LiveJournal community was created: [info]cityovillains.

Now you have the secret origin, we come to the wank.

Yesterday, someone posted in both</b> communities with the suggestion that said communities consolidate and become one. Things go along just fine, with most people saying, "Eh, no thanks. I like 'em separate."

Enter [info]coyoteseven.

[info]coyoteseven seems to have be a crusader looking for a crusade. He leaps into the non-existent fray, slashing right and left with abandon as only someone who likes to pretend he's a comic book character can.

ZAM! If you ask someone not to post in the wrong comm, you're a FORUM NAZI!
BAM! Not agreeing with me makes you ZOMG OPPRESS like the Inquisition!
THWAPP! SEPARATIONISTAS totally = JIM JONES!
BOFF! I'm just being obnoxious because it's FUNNY! I'm LAUGHING at you!
KAPOW! LOTS of people agree with me! In private! Really!

I do appear once in each community, though I don't feel that the wank is strong with me.

21 posts in CoV, 63 and growing on CoH (a full 12 posts were added just as I was typing this). Go, wank, go! THUNK!

Hm. The wank isn't about fandom content, it's about community structure. The fandom itself is really quite peripheral. That in mind, it seemed otf was the appropriate, but if I'm alone in thinking that, I have no problem in relocating.

Read it here, read it there, I don't much care either way.

CoH wank frankly bores the hell out of me (and I even play the game). It always devolves into something resembling math class (see the teaming post mentioned above). +1 this, +2 that, carry the five...ZOMG, it's NERFED! DOOOOM!

I keep getting tempted to get COH (and then if I like the inteface, maybe getting the other as well), but then these things scare me away. Damn it, I'm a spandex geek, why can't other spandex geeks stop making me want to hide?

Try not to judge the game on those who play it. :P Though the LJ communities are usually really quite wank free (we appear to be having a bad couple of days), such things only affect the game as much as you want them to. The official CoH boards, for example, are wanky as hell, but I stay away from them and all is well.

I've tried a few MMORPGs, and despite how the above report sounds, I do love the game.

If you're a fan of comic books, you should definitely give it a whirl. If you let yourself, you can really feel like a superhero. It's that awesome.

I think I might have a free 14-day trial lying around (or might be able to get you one). If you're keen, shoot me an e-mail: jetwolf at jetwolf dot com.

I'm just saying what I think (and apparently what others think going by the IMs I got).

This calls for a resounding chorus of "The Lurkers Support Me in Email".
