Sweet Chocolate Christ
This is TOO damn easy.

A post is made to brutal_honesty.

Title? "Sticking It to the Christians: How to Use the Bible as a Weapon Against Assholes."

Oh, you can just smell it, can't you?

It all starts with the first comment:

"I'm fairly sure oyu [sic] could have chalked that up to justifiable homicide.

Christians are douches."

And off it goes.

Way to stick it to those judgemental, closed-minded rude assholes! Show them who's boss with your moral superiority!

Oh man. I love the smell of irony in the morning.

I will say that I agree with the OP. Man, obvious Christians leave the worst tips on the whole goddamn planet, and I've never met anyone who hasn't waitressed for more than a few months who doesn't agree with me (and the OP) on this.

And I also agree that they are right in that the Bible IS the best "weapon" against hypocritical Christians. If you don't know what your religion is about, stop fostering it on other people! Sheesh...

We got a tip in our tip jar a month or so ago that was a million dollar bill. We all slowly boggled at it until we flipped it over, and running the back was "Are you saved? That is the TRUE million dollar question..." and ran off into some long-winded rant about getting saved.

I think it had Grover Cleveland on the front. I was a bit boggled about that.

That's nice, way to generalize. Yes, obviously people who leave pamphlets as a tip are terrible tippers (going from one of your replies)...but you can't use that as an argument that obvious Christians are therefore terrible tippers. Begging the question/circular reasoning, anyone?

And as for the other stuff...yes, praying at the table would make someone an obvious Christian. So would wearing a WWJD bracelet, or talking about the Bible. But not everyone who does that is a terrible tipper. My friends and I say grace before meals in restaurants and yeah, we leave sizeable tips. It'd kinda suck if a waiter saw us praying and thought to himself, "Gee, those people must be sucky tippers because they're obvious Christians!" Makes me wish I could read minds, so I could then leave him a really bad tip (a penny? no tip at all? which is more insulting?) for judging us. I know, I'm vindictive. :P Maybe I *am* a hypocritical Christian.

If you saw someone doing everything in your post during the meal (WWJD bracelets, Bible talking, praying), you really shouldn't assume that the person is a lousy tipper. Now, if the person leaves pamphlets instead of a tip, then of course he is a lousy tipper, but that's something you only find out after the fact. Remember, hindsight is always 20/20 (kind of like saying, "I always *knew* that kid was going to go crazy and kill everyone! The signs were all there!").

I'll wipe up after myself, thanks. /slinks off

*shrugs* I think bad tipping is an asshole problem that crosses religious and non-religious. My boyfriend and I are Christians who tip, on average, about 50% on our bills. On the flip side, I know very frugal ones who barely tip the 15%. To me, this is less a "Christian" issue than it is a generosity issue.

Crap.
Not caring if I got fired, I followed them out of the restaurant
Aside from my BS alarm going off, isn't the whole point of tips that they're an extra?
but it is mentioned numerous times in the Bible that only those who are blameless and without sin themselves may be in the position to judge others, and must do so within the church and in a constructive way. (Matthew 7:1-5)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the whole point of that little episode to teach people about rushing to punish instead of help? To get them to stop being so judgemental? In short, a big, blinking neon sign to the future Catholic church?
/That last part was a joke.

All these post about waitress made me realized that my friend didn't have that bad at all. Her boss would take all the tip for the night, takes a certain percentage, split it between #waitress and keep the rest. Which isn't that bad since she was paid a bit over the min wage, I think. As for me and tipping, we don't really need to do it in Canada (since all waitress are at least paid the min) but we usually leave 10-15% tip.
