So we've all seen that photo sequence of an aggressively poofy kitten playing with a big wrinkly mastiff, yes? Now, so has Cute Overload.

Except that the bloggist found the pictures courtesy of the Animal Liberation Front, everybody's favorite kitty-loving terrorist group, providers of the world's most adorable car bombings.

I'm pretty sure it was those braindeads who cut the cooling system lines on some freezer trucks at a seafood distributor in the Chicago area. They sure gave those dead and frozen shrimp a new lease on life, oh boy!

There's also been at least one mink-farm release in the Southern Puget Sound area; the farms here are much smaller than the one in England, and apparently most of the mink came back to their cages or died in the wild.

ALF firebombs people and then boasts about it. There's a history in the UK of the use of violence (not to mention graverobbing) to try and intimidate people involved with animal testing (including anyone who is supplying items to, being a shareholder in or sweeping the floors of HLS).

That said, before I start wanking everywhere, I'd just like to say that every time I see one of these wanks I get a sudden urge to go fry up a bunch of porkchops or something. And I live in a pork-free household and don't even like porkchops that much.

Anyone who thinks that ALF doesn't constitute a terrorist organization either doesn't know very much about ALF, or has the the same mindset as ALF. ALF's ideals might seem admirable to some, but I don't think any reasonable human being could possibly think that their end justifies their means.

The utter stupidity of ALF/ELF is best demonstrated by the firebombing of the Center for Urban Horticulture at the University of Washington, where a seed bank for endangered species, seedlings of rare plants being propagated for habitat restoration projects, research materials on native plants, and a horticultural/botanical library containing many rare books and irreplacable herbaria were destroyed in the attempt to destroy the research of a man whose materials were in another building. He was working on hybrid poplars, grown as a fast crop for wood fiber (usually on abondoned dairy farms).

The real kicker of this arson, and one in Oregon which took out a stand of the hybrid poplars, is that the vandals/terrorists/assholes accused the researcher of using genetic engineering, where he was doing plain old species X species hybridization and selective breeding, which has been going on since the neolithic.

Oh, that and the fact that hybrid poplars grown as a fiber crop take some logging pressure off natural forests.

I was a fanatic animal lover nut (god, humans suck!) when I was around twelve or so. Eco-terrorism, Captain Planet-style, would have really appealed to me back then.

I wonder if PETA and ALF and similar idiotic organisations know that they've completely lost the sympathies of people like me with their antics? I think they'd have an enormous amount of support if saner people didn't quietly back away from their brand of crazy, so as not to be lumped in with the stupid people on their side... to such an extent that they're not even on that side anymore. Some of us have even gone over to the dark side, and actually think frying up whales and fluffy baby seals is a good thing! They look delicious!
