Greetings from the land of ten thousand lakes!
Or possibly more like ten thousand wanks, as twin_cities confronts classism! or, well, probably more asshatism but that's an ism too, right?

It starts when frelsun posts wanting to find out where the bad neighborhoods in Minneapolis are. Apparently he was traumatized running through North Minneapolis, being variously hassled, chased, thrown things at, and witnessing a drug deal. He also throws in a lot of strange comments about how Minneapolis seems so poor compared to St. Paul and why would the mayor of such a place actually live there since it seems poor and crappy?

Wank begins in the first comment: "Try the lakes, since you seem to be allergic to "poor people."" And they're off!

A small wank, but hell, it's a slow day. Highlights include the OP trying to defend himself "No, no, I believe in the nobility of the working class!", </a>p_bau having a somewhat OT meltdown about people in Uptown judging him (warning, not strictly NSFW but kinda disturbing cat/Disney icons) followed by an entire post that's um. I'm not sure, but appears to be outing himself as a troll? [BALEETED} Also a non-Minnesotan is traumatized by the lack of Minnesota Nice. (what, just because it's a NICE stereotype we have to uphold it? We have as much right to be jerks on the internet as everyone else!)

ETA: and like the Energizer Bunny rising from the ashes, p_bau just keeps going, and going, and going...

What? Class warfar in the streets of the Twin Cities and no one brought up the Crack Stacks? (Or did I just miss the reference?)

I know! I think everyone just got so confused after p_bau that they just decided to let it go before it got there.

Holy crap, I didn't know the term 'Crack Stack' was widely used in Minneapolis. I thought it was just a funny name my (disgruntled) neighbor liked to throw around. I really should get to know my new culture a little better.

Hee hee. I spent my childhood days of yore in North Minneapolis. Our former house was actually condemned and later torn down (after we left it, natch.) It was sorta sad.

My state.. wanks? Wow.

'course, I'm from northcentral MN, and I try to avoid going to the cities if I can help it. I simply can't stand how much traffic there is and how nasty some people drive. AND CONSTRUCTION ON 494 WILL NEVER END.

rainydayparade's sophmore sociology student approach provides so much opportunity for fun replies.

Poverty is transient:

"Well, sure, if it can afford the subway fare."

or

"Yes it is. That's why, this week, Oakland is going to be super-rich and Hollywood is going to poor. Then poverty will move on to Manhattan, leaving Hollywood to rebuild its collective morale. Next week, the Vatican expects to turn St. Peters into a housing project for a week...."

or

"Trapped in the past, Poverty finds itself leaping from life to life, putting things wrong that once went right, and hoping each time, that its next leap will be the leap home...."

Before I moved to the Twin Cities, I thought suburbs were places reserved for the well off, and then moving here it was quite the surprise to discover that poor people live in suburbs. That seemed to contradict my image of what a suburb was.

That's funny, I thought a suburb was just residental areas, not 'where rich people live'.

But he's right! How can they possibly allow the poor into the SUBURBS? Obviously they belong in the slums and shanty towns outside the city.

It reminded me of when talking with a co-worker some years back who honestly believed that white people lived in houses while minorities lived in apartments.

When he gave me a ride home to my apartment after work, he was actually in a bit of shock at the shattering of his notions.

*Cities major hat on* The pattern of poverty in urban and suburban America these days is the donut effect. The rich and corporate have taken over the inner city, turning it into a zone of affluence (see also, the Loop in Chicago, Manhattan, Center City Philadelphia). Poverty today is concentrated in the outer edges of cities and the inner ring suburbs. Outer ring suburbs and exurbs tend to be wealthier, though poverty does exist there too.

Next, my thoughts on yaoi Robert Moses!

Frelsun is King of the Fucktards, anyway. First example, his profile on MakeOut Club:

"Interests: I strive to be pathbreaking and to advance if not altogther create new paradigms. The cornerstones of my existence are purity, creativity, justice, eclectism, and life. I cannot stand the mediocore nor the banal, I strive to invent and to change the world. I believe an eclectic approach to life is best, as I believe it creates a more dynamic worldview. Furthermore, when one is eclectic one ackwoledges that all of us can learn from each other. When one is eclectic, one is capable of synthesizing the best of the world into something altogether revolutionary. This entails a number of endeavors including producing satire, poetry, and political essays, public speaking, advocacy, and organizational activity. Principles are vital to me. I try to integrate my heartfelt principles as much as possible. I try to be as consistent and dedicated as I can be. I am staunchly opposed to alcohol in any way, shape, or form. I realize that just about no good can come from alcohol. It's tough to be alcohol free, but it is a great aspiration for life. I am an avid runner. Running marks the start of pretty much every day of mine. Physical fitness is vital as it benefits a person in so many ways."

Second example:

The Autonomy Party.

We live in Frogtown (in St. Paul), and it's one lively little place.

A couple weekends ago three ricers had a miniature speed rally in the intersection outside my window. It lasted like two or three minutes before they stopped chasing each other around in circles and drove off.

My response was to start keeping the camera nearer to the back door, in easier reach for next time.

Having just had visiting Minnesota relations look at me real funny when I mentioned being one of the civil witnesses at a Jewish wedding recently, I'm not currently of a mind to have high expectations of native Minnesotans.

It's amazing to hear someone say "Rabbi" in the same intonation most people reserve for "Ebola virus."
