Over at bad_service, sebbythewolf complains about what he percieves as bad service: a giggly cashier who asked if he wanted the sandwich or the meal he asked for. He thinks she should "be flipping fries" (?) instead of working the register. And lo, there was wank. At the claim that giggly airhead does her job well, sebbythewolf says:
Even Billy (the kid with Down Syndrome) has a job vaccuming one of my client's floors. Having a job doesn't amount to much.
Objecting to sebbythewolf's love of stereotypes, thecrimsondrago says:
P.S. If you like stereotypes so much, then welcome to the bottom of my shitlist you damn furry animal fucker.
Dismayed that people are attacking his friend, razieldumas interceeds on sebbythewolf's behalf:
Oi, you people lay the FUCK off of Geoff. This man has worked various retail jobs, including a fast food job and continually stands up for workers when stupid fuckers give them a hard time. He never stiffs waiters tips and he's often very congenial towards employees of various eateries. I thought this was a community to complain about idiots behind various counters?
pinkleberries offers one of many assesments of sebbythewolf's personality:
Wow, you really have this cocky-"I am better than everyone" atitude. Sounds like insecurity to me. Rather than calling attention to your crabby and rude behavior, you would rather find something like a "giggly-air-headed" McDonald's employee to be upset with. If you really are better than most people, try something that most people are not cappable of: being nice for a change. Get over it.
In conclusion: no furbashing kthnx.

Jesus. I'm with the people who aren't seeing the bad service in this. It sounds more like he was just pissy and didn't like the fact that she wasn't.

As a chronic nervous-giggler (meaning I just can't HELP it!), I agree. Someone giving me a "WTF are you a moron?" look wouldn't exactly help the problem, either.

Meh. I love the people going on about how they have such a strong "work ethic" that they'd be perfectly happy to work long hours for minimum wage, dealing with idiotic, rude, pushy customers with a perky happy grin and a perfectly polite attitude- and expect everyone else to do likewise, dammit! I'd love to live in their world...I'm just happy when they actually get my order right.

What the fuck? This dude would hate me. I work in a movie theater and I ask for confirmation on drink orders all the time. Know why? Because people are hardcore bitches if you get their order wrong. Oh, and I also smile at the customers. Damn me! Bad Service!!!

I hear you there. And sometimes, to be honest, with all that's going on I forget exactly what they said. Sometimes I hear them wrong and need to get confirmation again. It's normal.

Plus there's the fact that I'm usually working with pre-programed phrases and actions. When I pick up the bag or ubertub, I usually ask "do you want butter?", even if they've already stated their desire. It's automatic.

Another theatre employee here. ALWAYS verify the drink order, because it screws with the stocking system if you get a drink order wrong and have to replace it. More trouble than it's worth.

Lemme see if I've got this right:

OP's boyfriend: *gives very complicated order including various non-meal options*
Countergirl: *gets order right--without confirmation*
OP: *gives relatively simple order*
Countergirl: *Doublechecks order in a giggling way*
OP: *outraged*

So it's not possible that the girl was just having a little friendly fun--like, hahaha, that isn't nearly as complicated as your high maintenance BF's, are you sure that's what you want?

These are people who take a server zoning out on me while I'm in the middle of an order to no doubt ponder over which mini-skirt to wear to Skankfest 2006 as not bad service.

Oh, I see. He can read minds. And revise the story to something quite different from the original. This new info changes everything. H8erz, she totally zoned out on him! While working the counter at MickeyD's! Clearly, the only possible cause could be her intellectual weakness. Oh, damn, it doesn't really change anything.

If being giggly is a sign of Bad Service, I must really suck. Generally, when I work, I have to keep the mood light, and chat with the customers. Otherwise its just seconds of awkward silence while their sub toasts. Plus, when it's late, I get more tired, therefore more giggly.

Also, I am not going to remember if you wanted a meal if you tell me the very first thing, because I am going to be doing other stuff like making your food, and trying to get that right, which is also why I may have to ask you two or three times if you want anything else.

In short, I am really tired. *sleeps*

long and only tangentially related personal story

I used to work at a bakery, and one morning I was opening at 6 am. A guy came in, I said "hi!" in a rather high-pitched voice (because, um, I have a high-pitched voice and I hadn't said anything to anyone since waking up an hour earlier) and he proceeded to mock me. Then he asked for one of an item we only sold by threes, and asked me to make a special exception for him and just sell him the one.

Gah. Morons. I hates 'em.

In other words, getting irritated with cheery salespeople is annoying.

Personally I'd rather have a giggly teenybopper that confirms my order than one of those cashiers that half-ass listen because they're busy yapping over their shoulder at other coworkers. Especially in the Drive-Thru.

This man has worked various retail jobs, including a fast food job

Then that earns him double-douchery.

Goodness me, yes. Obviously the moment you step in the door, every employee must instantly prostrate themselves before you, because you truely are the centre of the universe, and those two seconds she used to confirm the order totally ruined your entire schedule. She should be shot because she dared to zone out on you after a long day. Truely this is the worst service EVER.

He'd hate the pizzeria I worked at. My boss kept me at the counter specifically because I was giggly and always asked for confirmation.

Ok... and because I could remember the prices of the more common order combos and do math in my head. But mostly because I was friendly and careful. Seriously, a split second to confirm that you're getting what you want is NOT bad service.

I was wondering if that would show up here or not.

I'll be honest, I agree with him although I don't really think the giggling had anything to do with it. That is, if I were in his place I wouldn't care about the giggling, just the way the situation was handled. If she had passed it off as "oh sorry you said the value meal, duh" afterwards and laughed okay but if she didn't and was totally serious I would be annoyed. He said the number 3 value meal and large size the fries so how could she not know that he wanted the value meal?

But I'm in the minority so I'll be quiet now.
