Gardening Wank--I never thought I'd see the day!
Since I almost never update this journal--

Surfing the forums at Gardenweb, I came across Lisalj. http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/roses/msg0713392730448.html?74

Turns out that when she ordered from reputable rose vendor Roses Unlimited she odered a rose called 'Coral Carpet.' The vendor therefore send her the rose she ordered. Alas, Roses Unlimited forgot their special Vulcan mind melding and thus did not know, Lisalj actually wanted the rose "Coral Flower Carper.' Oops.

Well, the posters at garden web are pretty straightforward about it.

Lisa, I don't understand why you would think RU should send you another rose. You ordered the wrong rose, so the vendor is not responsible for replacing it. Next time check HelpMeFind.com for help with rose names. Google is not a reliable source in this regard.

Lisa, I know you are upset and disappointed, but this misunderstanding comes more from your assuming and lack of research than anything else. Type in "Coral Carpet" at HelpMeFind.com and you'll get the Ben Williams rose that they sold to you. So you see, RU did not send you a mis-marked rose and therefore while I'm sorry for your mistake I don't see that they owe you anything

Trospero seals the deal : In your own words: you ordered 'Coral Carpet', not 'Coral Flower Carpet'. You got what you asked for, so I don't think your mistake should be regarded as their problem. Sorry, but I disagree with your complaint.

Meanwhile, the OP has emailed the owners of the nursery demanding the rose she didn't order wanted. Roses Unlimited's response?

The pictures you sent was a rose that you thought you had ordered from Roses Unlimited. We have never carried the rose that you sent pictures.
The rose that you received was a Ben Williams rose that was Coral Carpet. We carry this variety as well as Hortico.
I do not feel it is our responsibility to do anything other than what we have done and that was to send the rose that you ordered. The rose that you wanted has a slightly different name and that is Coral Flower Carpet. We have never carried that rose. We are not even given in Combined Rose List as being a source for that rose. We list Coral Carpet as a medium pink and the date is 1997. The date of the rose that you sent pictures is not this date.
I do not feel we are responsibile that you ordered a rose from us and the date and name is completely different from the one that you sent pictures. I wish this had not happened for you as you wished something different from what you ordered. We did send the correct Coral Carpet and I can give you Ben Williams email to verify that you did receive the correct rose that you ordered from Roses Unlimited.
Sincerely,
Pat Henry

And---cue the soup! Lisalj shoots back.

It's just funny to me that the vast majority of people 100% list the Coral Carpet Rose that I wanted on the Google search That doesn't persuade some of you know it alls that maybe I had a right to expect that rose to come? - every other vendor for example that I checked and have previously successfully ordered from showed that same rose.
and in spite of that I am subjected to (not that I care)the verbal abuse and sarcasm here immplying that I probably should have guessed she would sell me some obscure and hideous form of that rose that almost no one knows,

FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME THAT IS ALL WELL AND GOOD that she had an obscure version I have no problem with that and wanted to work it out as a substitute or a refund. No problem with either.

I think I am 100% in the right and was perfectly reasonable to expect the rose I finally ordered elsewhwere to complete my mass planting. Funny none of the other 10-20 vendors were confused....

It's a shame as wonderful as this list is and 99% of the participants are how a certain faction likes to pile on and be ugly when they don't even know what they are talking about.

I guess that's inherent in that type of individual. --Lisalj

It moves on from there to an argument over how to Google a rose bush and whether or not the rose vendor was rude to her or not. No internet argument would be complete without the
Goodbye Cruel Internets! follow up.

*stares* Well... this is new. Gardening wank, huh?

Also one poster in the 'goodbye' post said, Lisa lifes too short to let faceless strangers on the internet get to you. Obviously, this person is new to the internets. The Internet gardening is serious business!

I've discovered home gardeners to be some of the wankiest, most annoying people I've ever met. I'm surprised there hasn't been more.

I never fail to be amused yet screamingly headsmasingly frustrated at how "I disagree with you" somehow manages to read as "Shut the fuck up, you stupid twat."

But you know, maybe that's what they were really thinking, and that's the root of Lisa's problems. She clearly has a finely honed telepathic ability. The lack of same on the part of everyone else over the Internet must be so trying.

I'm amazed at how it's always the ones who are gleamingly, pellucidly wrong who insist on pressing boldly forward. If the Romans had had that kind of bloodymindedness, we'd all be speaking Latin.

It's a shame some of you can't find something a little more interesting and more worthy of the life God gave you with your time than to throw sucker punches at what those who actually know me would tell you is a genuinely nice person and to continue pile on and on and on and repeat the same insults over and over.... Too stupid to order a rose- a novice just doesn't know what she's doing- just not a nice person- picks low class roses etc etc. (excuse the paraphrase)

What the heck is a low class rose? One that drops its haitches?

Is it just me, or is it weird to be ordering things from 10-20 vendors at once? I mean, if one was doing the trees and another the soil, ok, but this sounds like she ordered the same rose from 20 diferent people. Either she needs to learn to type English, or she's a special kind of stupid.

Lastly, I've worked with battered women. I've seen first hand how abusers blame the person whom they are abusing for their feelings. I've seen this right here, as well. Lisa, if you are reading these, don't let abusive people twist it around to you!

Oh, it get's better!

You know i'd like to add that when I complained I didn't know really how I wanted it rectified. I didn't really care to get another rose and I had already planted it so returning it was more trouble and expense then I wanted to go through. I would've been happy with the offer of another rose that I wouldn't have accepted anyway cuz again I have no where to put it right now, maybe a credit for 1 in the future or something would've been more then appreciated. But I was certainly hopeful for some type of apology or interest in my feelings and I think thats what upset me most. The way it was handled. The feeling I got was that in her e-mail she was tired of complaints and that she was dismissive, defensive and trying to get out of any responsibility for what I may have been trying to get out of her. The e-mail was abrupt and chilly.

So, she planted the rose, she just wanted to bitch.

Dearest Lisa,

I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine,
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes.
When you take, you gotta give, so live and let live,
Or let go.
I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.

I could promise you things like big diamond rings,
But you don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover.
So you better think it over.
Well, if sweet-talkin' you could make it come true,
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter,
But what would it matter?
So smile for a while and let's be jolly:
Love shouldn't be so melancholy.
Come along and share the good times while we can.

I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine,
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes.

I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.

I could sing you a tune or promise you the moon,
But if that's what it takes to hold you,
I'd just as soon let you go, but there's one thing I want you to know.
You better look before you leap, still waters run deep,
And there won't always be someone there to pull you out,
And you know what I'm talkin' about.
So smile for a while and let's be jolly:
Love shouldn't be so melancholy.
Come along and share the good times while we can.

I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine,
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes.

Too late, alas, serves me right for going to Lake Chelan and getting some peace and quiet (hint: don't go on the weekend).

Garden communities are among the wankiest places I've ever been, including parenting and mental health communities. Rosarians are capable of being as wanky as SPO, and general garden discussions can lead to interpersonal wank beyond the imaginings of CF_Hardcore.

And don't get me started about tomatoe growers...
