"O Faygo, my Faygo": Faygo wank in English Majors
Since I was an English major in college, I joined [info]english_majors on LJ. Given our stereotypical need to argue things, I fully expected wank from this comm. at some point.

I did not expect the wank to be about soda.

So someone starts a post with his thoughts on Dead Poets Society. Some agree that it's not really doing much for English literature; some say, "Hey, it's just a movie, you should really just relax." [info]kickouttheiambs is the first to agree with the latter, and he/ she uses an unrelated in any way icon of a Detroit billboard advertising Faygo soda.

[info]likeawoman objects to the ad, on the grounds that red, grape, and orange sodas in the ads and with the area codes are pandering to racial stereotypes.

Your typical small and pointless argument ensues. Snark happens. Fun in the form of responses to likeawoman by:

[info]kickouttheiambs: I refuse to argue about racism with a white girl from the suburbs anymore. People identify with Detroit and Flint and they identify with Faygo, whether or not your one black friend in undergrad really liked grape soda. Get over yourself.

and

[info]abbacat: Well you have to admit, in the arena of comedy, this was too good not to be shared. I doff my tricorner hat, sprinkle ethnically-appropriate pixie dust & dip my unicorn's knee to you.

I will say I really liked drinking Faygo when I visited Detroit. You could chalk that up the the fact that I'm black, though.
