Kids on a PLANE!
Covering the best of both worlds: Customers suck AND Childfree!

So, over in customerssuck, alittledream posts about a sucky customer on a plane who snapped at her toddler on a plane. leer shows up and says "That's why you drug kids preflight, or better yet, don't bring a baby on an airplane." Cue wank.

Leer, not getting patted on the head for suggesting drugging a child, goes to childfree for validation. She does not recieve it.

And, no I'm not karnythia's sockpuppet. I just play one on the internets.

I can think nothing but that this woman is a bitch for complaining about the complaining. Child screams hurt the average person, and if she has sensitive ears (like me) that kind of thing can be enough to bring a person to tears.

My parents tried the drugging-with-benadryl the first time they flew with me. Backfired BIG-TIME.

And I'd really like to smack everyone who seems to think that taking the kids on the plane is always optional.

What's boggling me is that no one at childfree seems to realize that y'know, sometimes kids HAVE to go on planes. Like when you're moving overseas. My dad was in the Navy, he got transferred from Naples, Italy, to Charleston, South Carolina. What, were he, my mom, 3-year-old me, and 8-month old brother going to grab a Venetian gondola and punt our way across the ocean to save the ears of the people on the trans-Atlantic flight? (That would've made an awesome story.) Sorry, sometimes it's necessary, even if it can be unpleasant.

So, essentially, people with kids should never leave the house for fear of offending the precious CF-ers?

Everyone hates the sound of babies crying, but it sounds like that kid wasn't really badly behaved under the circumstances and the parents were doing all they could. Would it really kill these people just to be a little bit tolerant?

It's hilarious, though, because you can see how incredibly hard some of the people at childfree are trying to be offensive and she pwns them all by being calm and rational. The repeated "no"s are beautiful.

While I don't agree with the drugging the children comment, if all the woman did was strap the kid down and then not try to hush it, I can understand the complaints. I'm really sensitive to screaming, and i've being known to curl up into a ball and put my hands over my ears if there's an argument between two adults I can't get away from. Children can hit a much higher pitch/decibel then adults.

Also, if this kid is two+, i'd expect a parent to atleast be able to quiet the childs tantrums at that age.

I could understand the annoyance from Ms K if the parent in question was doing everything in their power to calm the kid down. God bless 'em for trying to keep it quiet and all. I'm sure that the parent gets more annoyed than the innocent bystander when that happens because the kid won't listen to the parent trying to soothe it.

But if the parents were just standing idly by while the kid was screaming its lungs out... then I'd be rather annoyed, too, whether I was CF or not. Which I am.

I understand, though, that by stepping out into public, I've waived my God-given right to bitch and moan about things that annoy me, because it's obviously my fault if my day's activities take me to a place where screaming children and busy parents reside, isn't it?

I think, really, what we adults have to do is accept that there are going to be unavoidable situations that make everybody miserable...and simply roll with it. I work at a retail store, and I get screaming, crying, whining kids all. the. time. It isn't pleasant, but you have to make the best of it. The vast majority of parents don't plan or encourage it, but kids are, well, kids. Annoying, at best, downright aggravating at worst.

Me? I think about the shit my mother put through when I was a kid. I keep in mind the fact that, once upon a time, the world was putting up with *my* temper tantrums. It helps to level me out. The complaints are understandable, but sometimes we have to accept the world isn't going to bend to our needs and plan accordingly.
