Actually I'm from the South and have very little noticable accent. It wasn't really encouraged in my elementary schooling so teachers worked to remove a lot of the obvious pronunciation issues. Not that this stopped people in college from asking me to say something Southern and be very disappointed when my midwest broadcast standard accent told them to shove it.

*headdesk* I'm from coastal Mississippi, which is fairly mild as far as accents go, but when I went to CA everyone asked me to "SAY YA'LL OR AIN'T" over and over again.

That is really fucking annoying.

I couldn't get past the part when they start saying that English is soooooo much harder because it has exceptions (no other language has!) and the Spanish they learnt at school was sooooo easy. Well, the French at my school is VERY easy too. I can't buy a croissant. And German? Has been very easy also. I can't introduce myself yet! English? Seven years and I'm still not able to use prepositions properly. Spanish? A whole life and I still mess with accents.

I have nothing against black people themselves. I simply cannot stand their lazy way of talking.

I can't stop giggling at this. For all her ranting about proper rules of writing and speech, she's apparently never actually looked up the definition of the word "racist."

Is it possible for anything more oxymoronic to be placed so close together? Next I'll hear, "I have nothing against black people themselves. I just think one day God will wipe away the mudraces with a cleansing rain of fire."

As it turns out, I still sound like the Michigan-born damn Yankee I am even after seventeen years of living in Tennessee.

I think my favorite part is when volare replied to a now-deleted comment with a picture of Martin Luther King, Jr., and then krushisabitch deletes said comment. Yeah, there's really nothing you can say to that, you know?

Homasse is LOVE for the dialect thing. AAVE is very nifty to me (oh i am a canadese white kid la la la) - for one, it has little to no passive voice, and that alone is pretty damn cool.
Dialect. Not 'lazy way of talking'. Yeesh, you'd think the bint would realise how ironyriffic her twaddle is given that people stereotype the Spouthern drawl as 'lazy', too.

You know, I have people ask me all the time where I'm from. Apparently, having had speech classes screws with getting a Southern accent (Texas and Alabama) and leaves people wondering if I'm from Ohio.

Well, it's probably written by a lazy person, and unfortunately it's probably written by a native English speaker.

I will bet ten euros that there is a would of/should of/could of mistake in that letter. If there is, I want to take the cover letter writer and beat them with a stick. I don't CARE if that's the way the writer says it, if they're not writing it in a dialect or an accent, those mistakes have no business being there.
