a little drama in Cross-stitch
Oi things have been slowly building in the cross_stitch comm on LJ(last couple times I've seen mention of things but the posts were deleted so proceed carefully) and it looks like it's come to boil.

It starts when Ckat41 posts a Good-bye forever message because one of her posts was deleted for personal advertising. Some people are supportive, other's don't really care.

Then moment_of_me makes this post including the line "I'm not trying to start a wank" wanting clarification on some of the rules, and it all goes from there. Accusations of hypocrisy and power hungry mods.

Small but tasty.

Fuck, this is what happens when I don't read all the comms I belong to.

But I am WAY too old for strict rules...lol.

Oh, wow. Just wow. Nothing is more mature than saying you're too old for rules... Actually, I knew I recogized the name Ckat41... Oh, man, she's a fellow pixel doller... I'm so ashamed... and if she pixels, it's likely she's not so old... seeing as I was the oldest mod by no less than three years at a dolling forum I helped run when I was 19... most dollers tend to be between 13 and 16.

True, but there's still a good chunk of them that are more than old enough not to be wankers. Not that that seems to stop 'em.

Ha... you mean like MeganClare? Please tell me you witnessed the La Dolce meltdown last August? I was involved in that only because her last act as an admin was to ban me for disagreeing with her and So-Lou and then the new staff made me a mod a week later. That was the only time I was ever banned from anywhere, actually. Now I hang out at What the Muffin, but I still miss all the people from Dolce/MF-that-wasn't.

No, I'm more ex- than that, I think, and I was never properly up on the BNDs anyway. But God what a bunch of drama queens.

I wanna know when you get to be old for strict rules. 'Cause I could use a break from all this acting like a grownup crap.

oh, GOD, yeah.

Especially the ones about spending money on useful stuff instead of blowing it all on jewelry.

Thanks for reminding me why I got the hell out of the counted-thread comms even before the intarwebs took them over. Wanking over aida cloth kitted precious moments crappola executed in a single stitch. A bunch of SAHMs with far too much time and trite on their hands.

Oddly, most of the comm is made up of 20-somethings who work full time, with an even split between college students and, well, stay at home moms (we even have a 61yr old poster, now.).

It's just the second time in less than a month that someone has done the dramatic "I'm leaving!" post. The first was in her mid-30s and the second is 45. *facepalm*

I have been wondering if people like that are usually new to the internet. It's kind of a whole new way of social interaction. So, even though they are old in age-years, they are young in online-years, and wank just as hard as a lot of teens.

I kinda wonder the same, because part of me says "wtf? we've evolved past that, thanks..."

But both who've done it there are Old Enough To Know Better, but perhaps not young enough to have "grown up" with internet ettiquette?

Privately email a mod? Pshaw! Only sane people do that. It means you can't have wank or be defended by sockpuppets friends or get banninated!

It makes me sad that it made it here. Though with the second "I'm taking my toys and leaving!!111!!" post in less than a month, I guess we earned it. :D

It's sad. Cross-stitching is, like, this calm and "sweet" hobby - even our needles are blunt tipped!

Knitting needles are blunt, doesn't stop knitting from being an incredible source of splooge. I'm sure I remember crochet wank too. I've been wanky about spinning, and I suspect the only source of craft-related wank I've not come across yet is weaving.

One of these days, I'll get my arse in gear and knit/crochet a commemorative dildo cover for the wonderfulness that is craft-wank.

Wank about spinning?
The only spinning Wank I've seen was offline.
(Fallout from a handspinners conference my guild ran. Most unpleasant.)
Was it about the ever climbing cost of spinning wheels?

I'm trying to imagine what weavers might get wanky about... most are pretty patient (you have to be to warp up a loom.)

Alas, my spinning wankyness was offline too - my LYS has started selling handspun that well - isn't actually any good. It's beyond slubby into goddamn lumpy, the twist is screwed up, so that parts are massively overspun and parts aren't spun at all. It's badly dyed, and actually impossible to use - we've tried. But it sells for upwards of £25 a ball, because it's OMG Artsy! Heritage and craft standards were argued over, Andean peasants were invoked, and it was all rather ridiculous. Online, I've seen stuff regarding which type of spindle is superior, but it never quite developed far enough to warrant posting. I dropped off the LJ spinning communities, so I may have missed something, but...

Yeah, the crochet comm was pretty darn wanktastic. At least until it completely imploded on itself. Alas, I only found a couple of crochet wanks while I was researching the knitting article for the wiki, but I think the second one is about the aforementioned comm demise:

Oh, and a spinning wank, too:

This isn't even the first time the comm cross_stitch has been featured on OTF_wank. Although the previous was of a more political nature. And the mods tend to delete the juiciest copyright wanks before I even get to see them let alone report them(I just hear mention of them in later posts)
