Ann Coulter beats Jeremy Paxman and disproves Darwin. Or does she?
From [info]wank_report

In [info]ukpolitics, [info]flydanman posted a link to video clip of Jeremy Paxman interviewing Ann Coulter. Jeremy Paxman is known in the UK for his abrasive and forthright style of interviewing. [info]flydanman said "Well, finally someone has stood up to Paxman. And loathe her or love her, she really put him in his place. I watched with amusement, I hope you will too."

Except not, according to most of the replies. Most commenters feel that she came across as an idiot.

But according to [info]flydanman, that was only because she only had four minutes to make her case, he keeps telling people who disagree that she put Paxman in his place that they really need to read her book. Not that he's read it himself.

Summary of the interview by [info]tyrell

“Are you really this ignorant and crazy?”
“Yes, yes I am.”
“And you really mean this offensive rhetoric that makes you look like a freak?”
“Look, I wrote it and I meant it!”
“Wow. Okay then.”

Also, much debate about Creationism verses Darwinism.

Coulter vs Paxman is depressing enough.
The heinous lack of understanding of science in the following comments is destroying even my Arts trained brain.

That interview is pretty old isn't it? I'm sure I remember watching it ages ago, and pointing out to my mother that quite a lot of people seem to point and laugh at her on the internet. Which was pretty much what we were doing as well.

I still find it hard to fathom that there is so much debate between darwinism and creationism. Each to their own I guess.

This exchange pretty much says it all.

How can you repeatedly recommend people read a book you haven't read? - It is quite obvious that her arguments are laid out in the book and you cannot recite a book in a five minute interview with Paxman. You don't need a Bachelor's degree in literature to tell you that.

In other words: I don't need to have actually read the book to know that she totally pwns all in it.

My dear flydanman: YOU. FAIL. AT. LIFE.

It gave me a few minutes of confusion. So maybe Danman's just trying to sell her book.

Ugh, I hate it when people call it Darwinism. Just because some Christians can't fathom the idea of not blindly following a single source come hell or high water doesn't mean that the rest of us can't think through things for ourselves. I mean, really, just because the guy was the first to get there in any sort of big way doesn't mean we're all going to listen to him without question. The most he can expect from the scientific community is a pat on the back and maybe a shiny medal.

In other words, our view of The Origin of Species /= your view of the Bible. STOP PROJECTING.

Then Coulter stated that Darwinism has about as much evidence as Creationism with the difference that Darwinism is taught as a science.

That's a point for Ann Coulter? Unless there's proof for Creationism beyond "but the book said so!"

Y'know, it's really, really, obvious to me that Ann Coulter loves being hated. She gets off on it. She doesn't try to argue a point of view so much as anger people so that they will appease her enormous masturbatory hunger with hate mail and endless arguments about her. And yet people fall for this again and again. I think the only way you could actually piss her off would be to ignore her completely. But that will never happen, it seems.

The scariest thing about Coultier is that she RELIGIOUSLY believes the batshit insane things she says. I think there must be some sort of filter on her brain that only allows evidence that supports her bizarre beliefs through. In any case, she lives in a very scary and strange world. One of these days, I foresee the nice policemen talking her into dropping the knife and putting her clothes back on.

I find it fascinating what she considers 'religion' includes things like my opinion on the job our president's doing, or if I think medical care needs a little work done.

It makes me want to start my own little religion; the Church of Pie. I mean, I like pie, so it's GOT to be a religion. We of the Church of Pie hold it true that pie is delicious. God loved the world so much that he gave us his only pie.

God. Urge to kill rising.....

I don't know why these recent idiotic attacks on evolution annoy me quite as much as they do. Maybe because of the innate hypocrisy of it all. Like, yeah, sure, we'll reap the rewards of modern biology but we'll absolutely refuse to acknowledge the science and the scientific method that make it all possible. I mean, I know it has a negligible impact in the long run--the people smart enough to enact scientific progress aren't going into buy into creationism anyway--but it just peeves.

Coming up: my thoughts on yaoi.

I do so wish the crazy right would stop whining about how persecuted they're being, oh, government endorsed scientific theory with over a century of analysis and research under its belt superceding outmoded goatherders' superstitions! When I was in HS biology, my teacher was shaking in her boots when she got to the evolution unit, because she knew roughly half her class was against it. That's just the kind of community we were in. Government-sponsored brainwashing? How about continually downplaying a crucial aspect of understanding the nature of our existence, out of fear of upsetting people's delicate, intellectually lazy worlds.

Coulter, the idiocy you advocate is winning in some areas of the country, and that's the saddest part of all. Your punditry can take a hike, right along with the fucking War on Christmas and How The Liberal Press Are Destroying America. These are Not. Real. Problems. YOU AND YOUR ILK are.
