Current mood:*thud*

I just don't want to see Teh Gey!
Over on sfbayarea, belovedcrown asks about what to do while in San Francisco. She brings up such regular touristy things like visiting the Golden Gate Bridge, riding a cable car, and visiting Chinatown. Oh, and BTW:

Also, please note i am pretty conservative and happily married so i'm not into late night clubs, drugs, the gay scene or anything sketchy.

As the parent of a gay man, I very much hope that you were just wanting us to know that you're not looking for a date of any kind, or wild nightlife, rather than saying you'd prefer to avoid gays.

To which the OP replies, in part:

I'm not staking out strategies to avoid homosexuals entirely, i'm just trying to let it be known that i don't want to be directed toward a neighborhood where there will be live sex acts carried out on the street corner, or prostitution or drug addict needles to step on. hope that makes sense.

She knows what she's talking about. After all, she read about nekkid SF gays on Fark.

haruhiko's reply is more blunt:
My advice to you is to stay out of our city. We don't mind conservatives here, as what you want do do with your time is your business, but if your tendency is to lump "the gay scene" in with late night clubs/drugs/things that are sketchy, you'll be sorely disappointed that such negative stereotypes about homosexuals aren't true. Or perhaps you may indeed see happen to see two drunk gay boys making out on a street corner, and you'll be highly traumatized, and in the end you may just be the type to end up seeing one isolated thing that convinces you to believe all the misconceptions you've heard about our city. So stay holed up in your hotel room, or go to the extremely touristy spots where you'll be less likely to see Sketchy Gay Things. Like most big cities we have poor neighborhoods, rich neighborhoods, sketchy neighborhoods, and gay enclaves. Just stay away from what you don't want to see and you'll be fine. It's not like the Castro is what makes up all of S.F.

And then it all comes to a wonderful climax when the comm members start bickering among themselves.

There's also a follow-up post on the comm where the OP states:

For those of you who resorted to name calling, cruel taunts, and the like, i want you to know that you personally hurt me. yes, i know, boo hoo and all that but if i don't at least let you know the truth than you've always got the excuse to fall back on that you didn't know. representing a city that bills itself as the capitol of tolerance you betrayed it. my sole crime- to state that the gay scene did not mesh with my personal mores and i wanted to not be steered to activities that might place me alone in the heart of the gay scene. i also mentioned i felt the same way about the drug scene and clubbing but those opinions didn't seem to bother you nearly as much. for this crime i was sentence to a public flogging by some members of this community. i was called: a moron, a homophobe, an idiot and more. you've done nothing but strengthen the stereotype that many of my fellow conservative republicans have about liberals- that they are an intolerant bunch that preach tolerance but shout you down with childish insults if you have a different viewpoint than they. so much for tolerance!

And of course this begets even more wackiness on all sides.

ETA: And the OP seems to have deleted her journal. Ah, well. It was fun while it lasted.
ETA2: The inevitable troll post appears, with bonus wank as the wankers wank more about the wank...oh dear, I've gone cross-eyed.
