Theoretical physics wank
Lubos Motl (Harvard string theorist) and Peter Woit (Columbia anti-string theorist) have been fighting each other in their blogs for years: Motl's position appears to be that string theory is the only right way to do science and anyone who says otherwise is a crank who should be drummed out of academia; Woit's position seems to be that string theory has turned out to be a meaningless dead end and that its domination of theoretical physics has disastrously stunted any real chances for growth or breakthroughs in the field.
