Kirby vs. Link vs. deviantART
Chasethehedgehog is getting quite a lot of attention today for this deviation. Over 1,300 comments so far, ranging from praise to analysis on social commentary in the dA community to jealousy to confusion to critique of the new "popular" system.

windancer53:Srsly... I was like wtf?! [...] It also has like 2,000 something pageviews.... srsly... I'd KILL for that much on at least ONE of my pics...

Psychodelic: so if he DID refresh this page athousand times, he DESERVES to be bitched at because he IS wanting attention..
so hes getting it!

neptuneclear: omg... So freaking stupid. Disconnect yourself from the Internets now, plz.

Swordexpert-stock: You have the mentality of a 2yr old. And your vocabulary is pathetic to say the least. Try again. I enjoy watching people make fools of themselves. You do that very well. Congrats!

Shivasoul: its all to do with conformism and superficialness of society. nothing is popular unless it looks good, and the blind follow the blind, sad realy.

That's a very small portion of it. It goes on and on and on and on and on...

Point the first: "superficialness" != a real word.

Point the second: I want "Disconnect yourself from the Internets now, plz" on an icon.

nothing is popular unless it looks good, and the blind follow the blind, sad realy.

But how can the blind follow something based on the fact that it looks good?

I don't like such misuse of metaphors. Think of the poor metaphors, please.

nothing is popular unless it looks good doesn't even make sense, considering that we're talking about visual art, in which the criterion for acclaim IS that "it looks good."

Y'know, just to see if it changes or anything.

She's the bane of all those who'd really wanted to get a few more items before actually going to kill the monsters.

Navi: Hey! Listen!

Me: Not now, I'm trying to catch the bunny guy! I need another heart-piece.

Navi: Hey! Listen!

Me: Look, I just said not now. Do you want me to die against the water tentacle-monster thing?

Navi: Hey! Listen!

(Gets annoyed and mutes TV)

That's how it usually went for me...

I love DeviantArt. People will post hundreds of comments on art they hate (and on obvious trolls) because they don't think it deserves attention and want to say so as often and as loudly as possible, while continuing to ignore the unknown good art and even popular good art they claim should be getting the attention instead. After all, it's far too difficult to go looking for art they feel deserves comments and support, and then actually comment and support it. Nothing matters but what's on the front page!

And how can anyone not find that picture hilarious?

I am always boggled on how people whine about how something got on 'frontpage' like it was hand-picked for it's specialness. Do these people know the meaning of RANDOM SELECTION?

Or are only the nice pics allowed to get randomly selected?

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]aerobot
2006-09-07 10:43 am UTC (link)
True, but 'popular' is just pageviews, and 'popular' pics are still randomly selected to be shown on the front page. Again, they're not hand-picked.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]mastervex

But everyone should only click perfect art! And the staff should remove anything that's not good or that's fetish art or that's fanart from the front page themselves if it gets there, because it doesn't deserve the attention! I shouldn't have to go looking for art I want to see, it should be on the front page because it deserves to be there! If I comment hundreds of times on this picture saying how much it sucks and the artist should take it down because it doesn't belong on the front page, surely that will prove that it shouldn't be getting attention!
...
Yeah, I don't know, people on DeviantArt are just giant fucking morons, really.

So much pretense. So very much.

Note; viewing your own work doesn't count toward one's pageviews. I've checked. At least, that's how it was on v4.

*tries* Oh, wow, so now you can bring up your views count by refreshing? I thought it only counted one hit per day per IP?

Not that I'm going to abuse that new-found knowledge, but I'm seeing a lot of taped-down F5 keys in some people's future...
