Current mood:mmm chocolate rHum cake

In food_porn at livejournal, yulduz posts about a birthday cake her friends made her (it has smurfs on it and stuff, cool!). She also tells the community that it was a chocolate rhum cake. Which sounds yummy.

But wait.

RHUM? With an H?!

WANK!

Small but tasty.

Further proof for the fact that people can wank about anything and everything...

Also, just so you know, Wikipedia is not really an authoritative source for, well, anything.

LIES!!! Wikipedia will someday become self aware and rule us all!

What's great about jaybits correcting yulduz's spelling is that, while she's quoting dictionnaries, her freaking icon is murdering the french language.
Girl, "Lissard" isn't french - the word is "lézard". And that thing on the right ? Not a "melon". It's called a "pastèque". The sentence would be "Lézard avec pastèque" if you wanted to keep the stupid-sounding half translation - or "Lézard à côté d'une pastèque" if you actually wanted to, you know, not annoy the hell out of people who do speak french.

A common phenomenon, I've noticed. One poster observes another either making a mistake or writing unclearly and attempts to offer advice, and then a bunch of people jump down his/her throat. Makes me wonder how many people are turned off of trying to help others improve their language skills by these reactions. I know if I were writing and/or speaking in another language, I'd appreciate the help, no matter how trivial it might seem. How else can you learn?

That cake looks great - like the one my brother and I decorated when I was twelve. It had a motorbike, soldiers, and sundry animals; bit like the scene from The Great Escape. We spent hours decorating it for my mum’s birthday. I have no idea why she didn’t let us decorate another one for years.

Good lord, someone break this pompous shitbag's typing fingers, huh? "Help" really shouldn't come in the form of condescending "well, in America you better learn Americanese or no one will understand you!" bullshit. "Rhum" is to rum as "favourite" is to "favorite" and the like, just because it's not common doesn't mean it's not understandable.

I didn't even notice the 'h' at first even though I always spell it as 'rum'. I just went "Mmm...rum..." and started having lovely daydreams. Before clicking on the link, I thought this was going to be a wank involving rum people vs people who don't like it.
