"Haha, you were biking and got hit by a bus! Sucks for you!"
Or so the anon on [info]wank_report sums this one up.

OP gets hit by a bus while cycling. Some people are sympathetic, and advise her on how to go about reporting the busdriver. Yet volatilefreq thinks that the OP is a whiner for complaining. Then his/her ally learn2playnub backs this view up with a rant about how the OP deserved to have been killed by the bus. Excerpts:

"Go to a real city, and bike in the street. You'll get hit by a bus. You know what people will say? "Lol. What a fucking idiot. Who the hell does he/she think he/she is?"

and death threats, always a winner.

"Next time you are in the street maybe the bus will hit you and kill you. That way I won't have to worry about hitting your dumb ass, because you better believe if your bike puts a scratch on my car I'm going to stop, get out, and beat your ass to death with the lead pipe I keep in my trunk."

I am really struggling to fight the urge to post there myself, but I won't. Aside from it breaking the rules, I'm a lazy, lazy man. Whether those people like it or not, a bicycle is considered a vehicle and therefore has as much right to be on the road as a car. Yes, a lot of cyclists don't obey traffic laws when they are supposed to (I see a lot of bicycles keep on going when they are at red lights, or ride against traffic instead of with, plus just as a matter of safety, you're supposed to walk your bike when crossing a street, not ride it), but it's illegal to ride a bike on a sidewalk, and bicycles do have a right to be on the road.

This is a bit of a touchy subject for me, being that my bicycle is my main mode of transportation and I get damn sick of drivers acting like me sharing the road with them is somehow a stupid and horrible thing to do and I deserve to be mangled for it.

Wow, in Boulder? Because walkers and bikers pretty much have free reign over there. They were actually trying to pass a law that would prevent a car from making a turn if a bike was within 1000 yards of the corner, but changed their minds when they realized that no car would never be able to make a turn ever.

They should try riding in Greeley. No bike lanes anywhere except in West Greeley, which is all new and there have been more pedestrians killed here in the two years I've lived here than the entire 25 years I lived in Fort Collins.

Whoa... Okay... I live on a very big and VERY busy (traffic wise) college campus. The only times I really seen people get hit though are when a person has done something stupid. My favorites are still the person who rode their bike into my friend's car when she was stopped at a stop sign (yes, the car was not moving and they still managed to run into it) and the person who was riding their bike while talking on a cell phone and got surprised when they nearly got hit because they crossed in front of a bus without looking.

BUT- the thing is, the campus in general is way more patient with bikes and people who walk because everyone at some point has had to use non-car transportation because of space, money, and parking issues. The main ways to get around whether you are on the campus of Michigan State University or in East Lansing are your feet or your bike. Whoever the people are who say no one rides bikes in big traffic areas like cities and such is just ignorant beyond words.

I really feel for the OP here, especially as I have developed a bad habit of shouting, “Scared to ride on the road,” to cyclists who ride on pavements. I hate anti-social cyclists, but will applaud those who ride correctly. The OP doesn’t mention the light conditions and if she was wearing reflective clothing.

But I otherwise don't understand the hatred against them. For reals? Two minutes stuck behind a bike does not a road rage incident deserve. You'll pass them at the next stop. Chill out, already.

Obviously this person has never been to the Netherlands which is pretty much Bicycle Country, and I LOVE IT.

Besides, I think that cycling is the best way to get through a big city anyway, with a car you get stuck in traffic, with a bicycle you can ride past the cars and through small alleys that're closed off the cars. Bicycles FTW, bitches. Plus, I have NEVER had a problem parking my bicycle, and I've had plenty of problems parking a car.

That said, the only thing that scares me as I ride my bicycle through the city of Groningen are the city buses. Bicycles and buses are clearly archnemesises.

I just can't summon up any sympathy. I hate cyclists - way too many of them weave in and out of wherever the hell they feel like, ride on the footpath and expect everyone to get out of their way, go through red lights, and not a week goes by that I don't almost get hit by one or two of them. One almost cleaned up my 8 yo daughter last week when she was crossing a pedestrian crossing OUTSIDE A FUCKING SCHOOL and this dipshit just sailed right through the red light. It was only because I was holding her hand and yanked her back just in time that she was saved - the cyclist just kept right on going.

I don't know what it's like in America, but in Australia, cyclists are always bitching and moaning about how many of them get killed on the roads. Well, you know why? BECAUSE YOU IGNORE THE FUCKING ROAD RULES.

Sorry, it's one of those things that just sets me off.

Right, cyclists are the only irrasponsible vehicles on the roads. Drivers certainly never think that the entire world revolves around them, completely ignoring the safety of pedestrians and cyclists alike, and getting pissy at anything that dares to even mildly inconvience their high speeding for one second. And I have NEVER heard of drivers bullying or hitting cyclists on purpose. No, clearly, it's always the cyclists' fault.

Oh sure, some cyclists are really dumb. But for every dumb cyclist, there's a hundred idiotic asswads in powerful cars who would never look back after grazing a poor guy on a bike. Guess who I tend to side with?

I don't care if cyclists can sometimes be the worst asshats in the world, I'd still feel like utter shit if I killed one. >:E

I drive everywhere. Slowing down and giving a safe berth to all cyclists, even the annoying pricks who ride dangerously (actually, ESPECIALLY the annoying pricks who ride dangerously), makes driving a less stressful experience for me. The fact that there exist other drivers out there so obsessed with their "rights" that they forget that their first obligation is to safety totally blows my mind. SAFETY FIRST OR FUCKING ELSE.

true story: i've been random breath tested while riding a bicycle!

to make this somewhat more relevant i've also been hit by a truck while riding in a bike lane, so i guess sometimes it is the bus/truck's fault and not always the fault of those nasty oppresive cyclists, taking over roads one bike lane at a time...

A few summers ago my parents were out biking and they were hit by a truck (it was one of those wonky streets where the road takes a sharp turn to the left, but if you don't turn left you go straight onto another road. Leagally, you have to stop before you go straight). Anyway, long story short, some idiot reved up his car to try and make it through straight before my parents had turned and he hit them. My dad was okay, just bruises, but my mom had to be taken on a medflight to the university hopsital and spent the rest of the summer there. Fun fun.

Anyway, that was to say that volatilefreq and learn2playnub can go shove pineapples up their rectums right now.
