Quick and dirty entry
Customer's Suck and sometimes do employees

Suspected troll brags of being rude to customers who haven't done a thing yet. Then gets mad when the other denziens of the community don't kiss her ass and cheer her on for ignoring people in order to play Tetris.

Suspected sock puppets show up. It's all great fun.

Bwahaha. That's why i so love that community. People will post how they were rude to a customer for no good reason and then get pissed when not everyone pats them on the back for it.

My personal favorites though are the people who post 'i was a sucky customer' posts and then get upset when people agree that they did indeed suck. There was a great one involving a closed bathroom last week, i really should find it.

There sould be a special dictionary on fandoms, like there are e. g. Arabian slang and 1930 Ganbangers dictionaries around :p

A second account some uses for certain purposes. Wether to write, to mock, or to post

I think the term is inspired by people who use said accounts for roleplaying -- the character is the puppet.

Actually it predates online journals -- it's an old mailing list term, though you're right in principle. A sockpuppet on a mailing list was a fake identity (thus puppet) created to give "Yeah, you go girl!" support to someone's main handle. Or occasionally argue with them in a troll-y fashion to make them look put-upon or more interesting, a la psychoaddict's stunt here. :)

And if I'd mastered the use of the scrollwheel, I would have seen that someone posted the equivalent explanation further down. Lalala. This has been your redundant information for the day.

Imagine to journals called Bob and Alice4. Bob gets into a lot of wank. And curiously, Alice4 seems to always show up and defend Bob. Chances are Alice4 is just Bob hiding behind a different journal name. That's sockpuppetry.

From the Jargon Dictionary:

sock puppet n. [Usenet: from the act of placing a sock over your hand and talking to it and pretending it's talking back] In Usenet parlance, a pseudo through which the puppeteer posts follow-ups to their own original message to give the appearance that a number of people support the views held in the original message.

Clearly, customer service isn't Seryna's forte. I'm trying to imagine the idea job would be for her. Should we pack her and her whacky sense of humor into a leaky rocket and shoot her off to Jupiter, or keep her here and use her as a test subject for experimental anti-psychotic drugs?

Maybe she should try to get a job at the Bunnyranch. But then, she'd probably mock the customers' penises or titties (depending on the gender).

I mentioned this on another thread today where a question came up on tinhats. Should we have a dictionary/FAQ community for the wank terms to be explained? I'd start it if I a) had a code or b) knew how to generate them.

I don't think that's a community thing so much as one we'd need a webpage for. A community would make looking up the definitions difficult.

aye I was just thinking about how to submit questions and definitions in a less guestbook kinda way. Is there a free server better than geocities? I'm at a community college so I've got loads of spare time.

I don't know about free servers, but I just upgraded my hosting plan, so I have tons of extra space. If you know how to use FTP, you'd be welcome to a chunk of it.

bad idea.

We've been kicking round thoughts on doing something like that for about six months, but have never done it because we're really lazy because it takes all the fun out of them.

The point is, we have a load of wacky "insider jokes" and words and otps with complicated stories behind them and that lots of people don't get them. Then, they think we're mocking them even more/less than we really are. It's a brillaint plan, honest.

So there is a disagreement on what to do then. I mean it could just be a happy index of BNF and sockpuppet and the other constant questions. Although the history of in jokes is the sorta thing I wish I could know but since I wasn't here -shrug- sol.

Anywho I'll ask this:
Do I a) let the idea remain here for discussion or b) make a post on the idea and take in opinions.

Make a post about it.

I'd love to see a dictionary about it; these terms are not limisted to fandom_wank and it'll help me be a little less clueless :P
