Someone's wanking in the Quad! On the seventeenth of September, my college was visited by the group Tradition Family Property, who stood right outside the Student Memorial Center and played the bagpipes badly. I took pictures and video, since I love my digital camera and will take pictures of almost everything, put it on my LJ, it was over. Wrong. The student newspaper, The Snapper, ran an article about it, with someone who agrees with their principles. And they cite the Facebook group that's against Tradition Family Property. In tune with my own beliefs, I also think that those who oppose the TFP should do so in a more respectful fashion. This was not the case last Monday. Irate verbal attacks on the organization included calling the group Nazis and “Aryan Wackos.” A stroll around the dining halls that day would have revealed a number of anti-TFP conversations. I even stumbled across a Facebook group called Coalition against the Red Bagpiper. If you visit the group, you will find that their posts are full of cynicism and hate. One writer complains, “They’re destroying everything I love, including baby killing.” The worst part about such opposition is that it is usually in the name of tolerance, respect, and freedom. Yet, it seems people of this opinion are intolerant of any views opposing their own. Why they would take the 'baby killing' comment seriously, I don't know. The comments asplode. Eleanor: I'm female, 56 years old, and lived through the illegal abortion era. Here are some facts: When a woman is pregnant and doesn't want to be, she WILL look for an abortion, whether it's safe and legal or dirty and dangerous. Hypnotiq(who shows up frequently):I believe that abortions can lead to irresponsibility and reckless sexual behavior. If you choose to 'sleep around' with people, then be prepared to accept the consequences if something should go wrong. Take responsibility instead of looking for the easy way out. 'student':I just want to say thank you TFP for visiting Millersville University and for having the guts to say what virtually everyone is afraid to say in public: abortion is wrong and sinful. [...] College students today are indoctrinated to follow liberal ideas like a cows are led to pasture. Keep up the good work and never give up! God will give you victory. 'RE:Student':To student: Really? You agree with the recruitment of vulnerable children so that they can be used as political tools of the TFP's self-aggrandizing leaders? The matter at hand: It really makes me sick to hear people praising a cult. That's what they are. Their recruiting tactics mirror the hitler youth, going into rural areas claiming to be fighting for god, and recruiting young boys ages 12 to 14. Hypnotiq: "The matter at hand", i think you are looking at the abortion issue the wrong way. this isn't about women and what they should/shouldn't be allowed to have done to their bodies. it is an issue of personal responsibility, and depending on your views on abortion, murder. sorry, but women don't have the only say in this. the males that make them pregnant and the innocent lives they are deciding to terminate should also have a say. 'student':Wow! I guess I can't have my own opinion any more or support the peaceful actions of TFP. Someone posted this comment: "You agree with the recruitment of vulnerable children" and "I was pretty sure the Catholic Church (not some cult) was pretty adamant about condemning abortion in an intellectual way..." Well, for the record, that group doesn't recruit children. Stop making things up. Thank you. Second - did your read the flyer TFP was giving out on campus??? Did you??? It condemned abortion in a very calm and intellectual way. Yesterday it was contraception. Today it's abortion, the murder of unborn children, same sex "marriage" (sic) and euthanasia Doesn't strike me as being very calm and intellectual, but whatever. And there's going to be another article sometime, probably next week, as I've been asked if the paper can use my photos. Post a comment in response: |
