get bent, stupid people ([info]tianxiaode) wrote in [info]otf_wank,

Kitties for all!
Or, you know, not.

Hypoallergenic cats are available now!

The catch? They're $3,950 apiece.

It starts in the very first comment.

This is so stupid it is not even funny. If people have that kind of money to put out on a cat then try helping poor people or donating to a charity. hell, send me the money i am sure i can find something better to do with it

And the second:

? What if someone wanted a cat their entire life, yet couldn't, I'm sure you've spent as much money for an unnecessary luxury...how much is your car? $10,000+? When theirs cars for much cheaper....do you live in a $100,000+ home?...do you have kids who you pamper?

There's some attempt at sanity...
But lets get real on the price here. Bit pricy.

How is this any different than unusual breeds of dogs and cats that can also cost into the thousands? Except that this will actually make it possible for people that couldn't normally have a pet, to get one.

We all have our guilty pleasures, and hey if that's what it takes to have a pet, then it's up to that person as an individual to buy one.

...until barb shows up.
use the money to help poor people!!?? what a load of crap!! my husband and i have worked very hard for our money and made GOOD decisions. i will spend MY money the way i care to..and if that means a $5000 cat, then that is what i get........we make alot of money and are taxed alot of money to help the poor losers that dont care to get off their butts and help themselves!!

No reaction to the over-reactive Libertarian, but a lot of "my poor [mother/kid/sister/crippled neighbor] always wanted a [cat/dog/yaoi] and could never [afford/stop sneezing/translate]. At last, [he/she/it/they] are free from the bounds that have been imposed upon [him/her/them]."

Small, but cute and fuzzy and hypoallergenic.

*sighs at the pseudo-Libertarian*

Honestly, I wish these so-called Libertarians would understand something: it isn't that it's wrong to help people. Libertarians just don't want to be forced to.

Well, I guess I'll just hope she's a frothing crazy, instead of a Libertarian.

On a more on-topic note, that cat in the picture is adorable.

I'm willing to bet that at that price people won't be dumping them in the woods after they get tired of cleaning up poo. So, yay.

Although if it were me, I wouldn't spend that much money on a cat unless it could fire lasers on command or something. And then, seeing the lasers on the wall and being (sort of) a cat, it would have to chase them. It would be the world's first perpetual motion machine.

People would come over and see the laser cat chasing its line of sight around the ceiling, and they'd say "Luka, you are a madman to spend so much money on a single cat!"

But no. It'd be worth every damn penny.

a) $10K+ car = enough extra $$ to get a $4K kitty?

b) Only $10K? Has this person shopped for new (or decent used) cars lately? Yeesh.

I love them comments going "OMG ADOPT FROM A SHELTER"

Great sentiment there, but seriously, anyone chucking out 4000 for a cat obviously has severe enough allergies they can't deal with shelter (ie Allergenic) animals.

The failure to think is amazing.

It's pretty pricey, yeah, but it's their money. If I had allergies and $4k to spare, I'd get one, because we've always had cats in the house and not having them around is depressing. (Yes, washing the cat once a week with special shampoo might be cheaper, but this is a hypothetical situation where I have $4000 sitting around to do with as I please.)

I'm very glad I only have mild hayfever and no animal allergies. *fluffles her kitties*

Wow, what a gorgeous cat.

We spent $800 on a purebred Maine Coon and that's with a discount because he was bred by the vet we'd been going to for 7 years. $4,000 really isn't that much for what you're getting.

Kitty! *cuddles her five* ♥

Cats are absolute love even when they claw the g'jeebus out of your arms while you attempt to bathe them and the big cat in charge of the house decides he really doesn't like having a bath and bites you, leaving you this awesome sickle-shaped scar and while whyever one couldn't get a slightly more affordable product to reduce the kitty's sway on one's allergies is beyond me, if one has $4,000 just burning a hole in one's pocket and simply must have a cat, more power to my fellow cat lover.

Huh. Interesting idea. Based on the work and probably $$$$$ that went into the genetic/protein testing, I can see why they'd be so pricy. Although, $4K is still high in my book. $2K seems more reasonable to me because that's what you get for the "high end" dog breeds. I'm still not at all a fan of breeding for profit but in this case I think you could say somethng about the love of the animal being involved.

Also, I just don't get yaoi.

!!!! Are you kidding? I am seriously beside myself with glee. My allergies are bad enough that I can't get around cats without literally chewing my hands bloody, so this is beyond awesome.

I'm sure you can convince your child to have another pet rather than a cat.

Yes, but... for me that's, like, goldfish. Goldfish are very inefficient cuddlers.

My friends have some hypo-allergenic cat, too! But it's not that one - it's a longhaired white cat. They said that the allergies come from the cat's spit and something-or-other glands, mainly, rather than the actual hair itself. And the cat doesn't have those something-or-other glands, so they're fine. She's preeetty, too. (And I'm pretty sure not $4,000)

Y'know, as much as I've always loved cats, have always been deathly allergic, and would love to have a cuddly no-sneezy-kitty wandering around the place... for that kind of investment, that'd better be a damn long-lived cat. 15 years or so just ain't gonna cut it.
