The Godless Heathens Vs. The Bible Thumpers
Hey, all. Long time lurker, first time poster.

Anyway, Peter David, writer of stuff, has a weblog. Usually, it's about his daughter, his bowling game, or whatever project he's working on now, but every now and then he posts something concerning a highly volatile political topic. While the discussions on many of them are easily worthy of being wanked, this recent post of his really takes the cake.

"An *Amendment* Now?" - A discussion on the same-sex marriage amendment.

The second comment by James Tichiy starts it off:

"The seperation of church and state is intended to protect the church from the state and not the state from the church.

"I know that this may open a whole big can of worms but our founding fathers had no intention of making this a Republic of moral and religious ambiguity. Our nation was founded on judeo christian principles and to be honest that is a historical fact."

People disagree pretty quickly:

"Also, this country was not founded by Christians in the Judeo-Christian tradition; it was founded by Deists in the tradition of the Enlightenment. The only way to go against what this country stands for is to go against the rights of man, Reason, and the scientific method." - Kim

Things start to go downhill from there. As the discussion gets uglier, two sides come out. On one side, religious conservatives, on the other, atheist and agnostic liberals. Soon, the backhanded insults and name-calling begins, followed by attacks for/against religion:

"If I had to pick a god to believe in, I'd have to go with Zues or Odin, sure they were arrogant, but they also weren't afraid to show themselves and their power, unless (sic) another god I could mention... " - Bladestar

Avi, one of the religious conservatives, says everyone is disrespecting Peter David's weblog, his PERSONAL PROPERTY, and everyone should stop it. Peter David, meanwhile, has been chiming in regularly throughout the discussion (he's a strong liberal). All the rest of the liberals begin their attacks on Avi...

It devolves into another debate about the definition of Atheism and the fun just doesn't stop.

Meanwhile, Peter David has already made another post about the incident that happened with the Crocodile Hunter and so it begins once more.

... Peter David's weblog has got to be one of the most beautiful places on the web. *grins*
