Well, it's not so much "we might as well have kids anyway" as it is "we might as well have sex anyway."

The whole situation just sucks. Everyone deserves the right to have children, even those that can't afford it because there should be systems in place to support those who work but still can't make ends meet for their family (like food stamps and public education and so on but, you know, effective; sometimes it does take a village). And everyone deserves access to birth control so that they can make the choice to have children when they want to (some will still choose to have children when they aren't finanically stable, but tough cookies).
