i'm in u'r restaurantz, throwin' up u'r f00dz...
[info]kidophaux posts to [info]customers_suck on ElJay about a customer he gets in his fast food place of work who has bulimia. The customer apparently buys food and goes in the bathroom to throw it up after eating. The OP makes a comment that the bulimia isn't the suck, it's just teh funnay and they don't really care.

He then goes on to talk about something completely unrelated. But the commentors have nothing much to say about the real suck (SURPRISE!)...

[info]penguinevere is on the very first comment about bulimia being TOTALLY NOT FUNNY. [info]giove_dea says she's missed the point. A few more comments in that thread, but [info]penguinevere is reasonable and isn't wanky anymore. Kinda.

The next wanker, [info]recordplayeron is not so reasonable. Points for pwning the OP with his own quote, but those points are quickly taken away. Much wankage in that thread. mostly it's [info]recordplayeron with "blah blah assuming makes and ass of u and me blah blah watch me have a stick up my ass". Continued reading of the thread reveals a sarcastic (and damn funny) flamewar between [info]recordplayeron and [info]blasphemusfish.

[info]dreamertheresa is my hero.

[info]lots42 comments, "Why haven't you banned bullimic man for being an insane freakjob? Letting him do his thing is just inviting lawsuits."

Because, you know, throwing up? Totally illegal.

Oh, and [info]starfyre_dragon, if you're reading this, your wait is over. =P

The OP has made it clear that he doesn't think bulimia is funny, just the manner in which the man goes about his way. I still can't feel bad for BulimiaMan because he's a total asshole, which was the whole point of the OP's post.

If this post seems cracked out, it's because it's I'm up Too Damn Late.

I'm just wondering...considering how litigious our society has become, couldn't Bullimia Man eventually sue the place? He could end up being hospitalized once the vomit acid eats away at his throat. Then he'd sue for medical coverage, not to mention pain and suffering. He'd claim that once the fast food restaurant knew of his affliction, they had the responsibility to stop serving him food. Doesn't matter that he'd just go eat somewhere else...

I don't know if he'd win, but I could definitely see him suing...

I've seen even dumber law suits that won. Like, "Gee, I didn't know the coffee was hot!"

That's why bags of peanuts now say, "Caution: contains nuts."

So, yeah, I can see BulimiaMan suing.

I hate that sort of thing. People hear about one crazy case getting won, and they hear about it out of context, and they assume not only that a person will automatically sue, but that the first judge who even hears about it won't beat him over the head with a gavel for being so stupid.

No, I don't think so. You file a lawsuit and everyone in the world know you're eating-disordered. People are ashamed of these things, especially when they're wealthy businessmen.

I stayed up for like two days straight my freshman year for schoolwork, then went to biology class. I got sick in the middle of the class and had to leave in order to go throw up.

While I was trying to regain my bearings, I heard some girls outside the stall discussing whether I was bulimic or just hung over.

Totally unrelated, I guess, but. Bulimia + talking about people where they can obviously hear you is relevant. Ish. Relevantish.

Wow. Way to add 2 + 2 to get 5!

I'm skinny. I come from a family of skinny people. My middle school guidence counselor thought I was anorexic and kept hounding me about it. It was very annoying. I had 3 years of him always asking me food questions and about my eating habits.

Uch. Lame of them.

I do admit having a certain amount of fun, during one internship, debating with the other interns whether the Office Fuckup was using the bathroom every two hours because of a) bulimia or b) cocaine. Then again, we knew she had both diet and drug issues, so more grounds.

I know bulimia is a serious disorder and those who suffer from it deserve help and all, but throwing up in a fast food place's bathroom so that someone making minimum wage has to wipe up your puke and doing it habitually, no less, is indeed not fucking funny. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it's rude.

(Heck, it's not just rude to the workers - what about other customers who might want to use the restroom without hearing retching noises from the next stall over?)

Add that "Is he retarded?" conversation and... yep, that man isn't someone I'd feel sorry for in the slightest, eating disorder or no eating disorder.

I contend that the illness itself is not funny, it's some of the people with it who are effing amusing.

Also? There are a lot of reflexively-irate-on-behalf-of-others assholes (and of the non-asshole variety) out there, who won't wait to see if you are actually offended, but will jump up, flailing and screaming, "OMG, NOT COOL!"

All I can say is, don't fear the context! Context gives meaning to the world and clarity to words.

Just because you have a serious problem or disorder doesn't excuse you from being a jerk. There's an article I read recently *digs up article* here about a teen that decided to commit suicide by crashing full speed into another car going the other way. She lived, but killed a mother of 3 and injured the child that was mother's car.

I really feel for anyone suffering from depression and gets to the point that they want to take their own life. That doesn't excuse the extreme selfishness of trying to take someone else with you.
