Um, what...?
Britney's podunk hometown is under the impression that she

a) should be a role-model
b) up until now, has been a role-model o.O
c) is embarrassing them personally
and
d) should donate lots of money to them.

Methinks Britney's neighbors are extremely wanky inbred.

I lived in Bay City, Michigan, where Madonna was born. And then there's Rochester, where she'd like to say she was born.

I say the whole situation is one load short of a shipwreck.

a) should be a role-model

Well, entertainers generally are role models, not that they should be, generally.

b) up until now, has been a role-model o.O

Sadly, this is so. I'd say Britney is probably about 80% responsible for stuff like thongs being made for eight-year-olds, and the great number of preteens who dress like streetwalkers.

c) is embarrassing them personally

I'd be embarrassed to come from the same town as that, too.

d) should donate lots of money to them.

*splurt*

*shrugs* I'm not sure it's all that wanky to think that it would be nice if the hometown girl gave something back since she clearly has money to burn.

It's their snippy, prissy, self-centered arrogance. She OWES her hometown money because she's (briefly) famous? WTF?

I'm actually with them with the "Was a role-model but now isn't." (I remember when she used to have a Barbie Doll and encouraged little girls to her concert. Now she wants to be the next Madonna. What the fuck?) The "SEND US MONEY!" stuff is stupid and totally wanky, though.

It's so sad when a half-dead town has no chance of economic revival except from a handout from some native son/daughter who probably wants to forget they ever lived there - sometimes they get like that even if the person outwardly hated the town, or only lived there for 2.5 months, once, when they were four.

Small towns can have a sense of entitlement that's just out of this world; they really, truly think their little spot of nowhere is the center of the universe and they deserve whatever they want. Uh, no, it's not a pet peeve or anything. *runs* ;)

Methinks it's MSNBC that's the wankers. And FNC and CNN and E! and any other news networks. I think that the residents of Kentwood are more degraded by the shrieking howler monkeys on the hunt for Britney's "husband" rather than the fact that she had a quickie in Vegas.

I mean, I'm from Martha fucking Stewart's hometown (well, to be correct, the town she grew up in), and I'm not embarassed by the entire ImClone fiasco.

Then again, the things that some of the residents are quoted as saying are pretty selfish. Some of the things smack of "The town's a mess! Britney, clean this place up!"

There's a reason people leave small towns.

They want her to give the town money... to help their "ailing dairy farm economy"? *dies of laughter* "Britney! We need more money for Daisy the cow! Give us some of your money!"
Seriously, friends and family are one thing, but the town? Not gonna happen.
