Boxers, Briefs, or Other: Political Style
As many Americans (and non-Americans who pay attention to our internal politics) may be aware, Mitt Romney, outgoing Massachusetts governor, is "investigating the possibility" of running for president for the 2008 elections. (Translated into normal English: he's running for president.) And he's created quite a buzz.
Blogger and famously (for a very specific definition of "famous") gay Catholic conservative Andrew Sullivan has been talking at length about Romney and explaining his concerns about Romney's religious views in relation to his potential public duties as president. There's been quite a bit of (IMHO) interesting back and forth re: Mormons and gays/blacks/women, whether Mormons are Christian, etc. etc. So far, so good.
But then, things take a turn: Sullivan makes a post about Mormon temple garments, a.k.a. Mormon underwear.
Apparently, he gets lots of email about it.
Sullivan is one of those people who can maintain really prime wank pretty much all by himself, so that would be enough to amuse me, but because I love you I share with you the following interesting thread (131 comments at the time of this post) on By Common Consent, a Mormon blog. Contained within are people making fun of Scientology, whether the media ignored the whole Skull & Bones thing with Bush and Kerry, and the following (not so much wanky as actually pretty entertaining) exchange:
Maybe Sullivan needs a taste of his own medicine. You think Mormon practices are weird, wait until you hear what homosexuals do. I wonder if there are any pictures of that on the internets.

gst, in the lower tubules that constitute Teh Internets I believe there are rendered captions of such things. You need to print them out onto foolscap paper, however, as they are ASCII-rendered drawrings.

There's also a brief but rather entertaining post (especially in the comments section) at political gossip blog Wonkette entitled Mitt Romney's Underwear Coverup.
Americans in the audience, expect to learn more about Mormon underwear in the coming two years (assuming Romney doesn't give up early) than you ever wanted to know.
