Catholic Movie Wank + Pregnant Teen Star = Explode!
It seems as though our good friends at the LJ community Oh No They Didn't are up to their old tricks again. Initially, one poster reported a few days ago that Keisha Castle Hughes, the newly pregnant teenage star of the upcoming baby-Jesus movie Nativity (she's playing the Virgin Mary, just to ratchet up the irony factor) was snubbed by the vatican. However, a second poster chimed in recently to let us know that any such reports are lies, damn lies, used to propogate anti-Catholic sentiments.

The community, as you can probably already predict by now, gleefully explodes into a 500+ comment wankstorm.

Good luck to everyone struggling with finals week right now, btw. Here's to happy procrastinating on all the wank communities!

All I could think was, I wonder if she has Danemma-like fans who are over the moon about this pregnancy? And are the Danemma fans jealous? After all, they've been wishing Emma Watson would do this for ages!

I never understand the complaints about criticizing religion. If you're going to put the entirety of yourself into a faith that may include the exclusion of others, you should at least have the guts to be honest about it. God forbid, you might learn something about yourself. Hell, my mother's an ardent Roman Catholic, and and that's never stopped her from bitching about about the stubborn lack of progression in the Catholic church.

Hnn, but best of luck to her family. Teen pregnancies are never easy. :-/

In the first (much less wanky) ONTD post about her pregnancy in October or November, someone said about Keisha Castle Hughes, star of Whale Rider, that "it must have been a sperm whale she was ridin'."

She's Maori - it's no surprise that she's pregnant. Often in that culture, like many others, they have children young. It's not a huge deal.

Wait, wait, what? Let's back up here. IIRC, this girl is Australian, and might not have been raised in her traditional culture. And even if the Maori allowed that, guess what, that was pretty common in western cultures too. It doesn't mean it's normal for teenagers to get pregnant today.

So, uh, way to make assumptions based on her ethnic background?
