Academic wank ahoy!
I found this one in [info]wank_report, and it's too good not to share with the class. Academic wank makes my day.

Meet [info]bob_the_normal. Bob is a freshman taking a (community) college English course from a professor who has certain standards to his grading. Bob strongly feels he deserves an A. The professor, apparently, disagrees. Bob proceeds to write up a complaint to the lj group [info]academics_anon, a community with many members who work in in higher education.

How do I get an A in this class? I'm at the point where I'm going to ask him in the final week what he thinks I'm going to get... and if he tells me a B I will, basically, threaten to take all my essays to the English board for review. I have no doubt they will find my work excellent, and far above the average 1B student. I think this is completely unfair. I see that he wants to make people try harder, and that is fine... but it costs my future, not his. I'm not okay with that.

Is this merely the post of a disgruntled student, or could the professor have darker motivations?

To add to the pain of that, a very nice Greek girl is in the class and she has very good writing -- but she herself tells me she thinks that my writing is better. He gives her all As. He is Greek.

It's unclear whether he's looking for advice or validation, because he ignores the former and receives none of the latter. In fact, the community pretty much lets him have it with both barrels.

The entry itself is almost genius in its sheer amount of pretension, but the comments are where the wank really starts to flow. Bob apparently has some problems with constructive criticism. It's impossible to quote all of the good stuff here.

Maybe if you'd read more carefully, and not allow your own personal feelings of inadequacy in teaching invade your argument, you would have percieved the question I was (clearly) asking

I wrote my post in a hurry before class, I didn't realize that because it was an academic community that people would lack common sense... that is now noted.

I can be a pretentious as I want, as long as I'm right.

I think I'm adopting that last one as my personal motto.

Reading the entire post is worth it to see Bob spectacularly fail to get the point...over and over and over again.

There's also some bonus wank when he shows up in another post dealing with crying students. Don't you know that giving an F to a cheating student is just as horrible as the actual cheating? Why, they had reasons for cheating that you know nothing about!

And for the record, I would like to declare a moratorium on any username variations of "name_the_adjective". They're all invariably wanky.
