stupid_free wank
Over at [info]parent_drama, a mother is snarked for feeding her baby fudgesicles. When someone mentions the risk of diabetes, [info]bennysmom chimes in:

Actually, that won't cause diabetes. Even type 2 although that is usually caused by being obese. Fudgesicles don't have much fat even.

*Type 1 diabetic here who was kind of offended by your ignorant statement.

As a result, she is snarked in [info]stupid_free.

But wait, there's more! [info]bennysmom shows up to defend herself! And much lulz are had by all.

EDIT: Ooo, look! Meta-wank!

Also, [info]bennysmom is now [info]chocolat_girl.

Though I'm not a parent, I admit that all the "don't feed your child that! It might give them this!" kind of boggles me. Because when you take that to extremes, the poor kid can't eat anything. Don't give them peanuts, wheat, lemons, soy, or anything else that might potentially give them an allergy! Don't give them dairy that would potentially make them lactose intolerant! Don't give them sweets that would potentially make them diabetic!

It's like I'm watching the beginning of a commercial in an sf film. "Instead, only give them our specially formulated food cubes, with all the necessary vitamins and nutrients your child needs, but none of the risks! ...just don't ask us how we make them."

viggofied: Just because you have diabetes (you know the non-fat kind) doesn't make you an expert on type 2. I have hypoglycemia yet wouldn't be able to explain to a diabetic what it's like to have sugar levels drop.

bennysmon: You wouldn't need explain to me what low blood sugar feels like because insulin dependent diabetics have hypoglycemic episodes quite often. I've been taken to the ER with a blood sugar of 16 before, trust me, diabetics know what they feel like!

viggofied: Just because you have had "hypoglycemic episodes" does not mean that you know how they feel to me or what my body does when I have them.

That....just...*headsplody* It's the equivalent of this:

"I can drive a stick shift car, so you can't understand how hard it is to drive a stick shift!"
"Well, I rent cars a lot, and sometimes I end up driving a stick shift. so yes, I do know what it's like."
"FOMGSTFUHOR your stick shifting is nothing compared ot mine!"

Yeah, I ate a HELL of a lot of sugar growing, pretty much from birth because my mother was like that.. .and I never developed diabetes of any type. I did develop a crapload of allergies though.

Anyway, out of curiousity a few years back I asked my doctor is ingesting too much sugar could put one at risk for diabete (on any level) and his answer was no.

And on a completely unrelated note (not that all of this hasn't been unrelated), sugar is addictive!
