queer_recruit: The wank that found *me*!
Appologies if this has already been posted...

I just got friended by queer_recruit, which I thought was a troll mocking the "cure the gay" Christian types, until I saw how sincere she was. From her userinfo:

I've created this journal to recruit heterosexuals to fall in love with their same-sex friends. Obviously I'm incapable of recruiting you unless you agree to be recruited, but if you do find the idea worth considering, I'm here to answer any questions I can and ask you questions you might not otherwise have considered. For example:
If you've been in love with members of the opposite sex, were you able to achieve as much communication and understanding with them as you've achieved with your closest same-sex friends?

If the mere physical body someone was born with is enough to prevent you from falling in love with them no matter how much better communication and understanding and completely perfectly well-matched minds you have with them than with anyone else in the world, doesn't that make the whole meaning of "falling in love" awfully shallowly physical and emotionally meaningless?
These are some of the questions that led me to convert from heterosexuality to bisexuality 11 years ago.

If you have any objection to being on my friends list, feel free to ask to be removed from it and I will remove you right away. You weren't picked for any particular reason, except that you seemed intelligent and I thought your journal would be interesting to read (and you're welcome to read mine whether or not you sign up to be recruited!).

Lots of wank from both sides in the comments. Highlights:

False dichotomy. I've achieved greater communication and understanding with friends of either gender or orientation than I ever have in my disastrous attempts at dating. Furthermore, I managed to deep-six a five-year friendship (with a guy, for the record) in fifteen minutes by trying to take it to the next level.

Ever since then, I don't fuck my friends. Period. I've had the experience of losing both the friendship and the romance because of introducing the latter into the former, and I don't care to repeat it.

As for "converting" people from one sexual preference to another... don't get me started.

Hon, it's a sexual orientation, not the goddamned Coast Guard. You're not going to recruit anyone.

And fuck you very much for fueling the "look at me! I'm so kewl because I decided to be biSEXual!" stereotype.

No, no, no, see, joining the Coast Guard is much more serious than switching sexual orientations. Sexual orientation is just a big touch football game, and this girl's intent is to make sure that there are as many skins as shirts!

...someone hand me my tongue decheeker, please.

But... now that I've read all of her compelling arguments I've realized that I've been stalking Smo-chan because I long to make the beast with two backs with her and embrace my bi-sexuality.

And without queer_recruit, I never would have cast off my chains of heterosexuality!

*sniffs* I've ...fought it for too long, Smo-chan! But now I know, I can never live without you again! Please, oh please will you be mine? For without your verdant touch, my heart will never know the sweet songs of robins on a spring morn, nor know the healing water of your tears!

You know, I always find it especially hot when lesbians actually make the beast with two backs, rather than say the beasts fingering each other's crotches while attempting to look pleasured. ^.^

hahahah! I love this person's imagination, at least. Actually, I tend to tell my friends with relationship problems "guys suck, date girls instead."

err, then again, the "you are obviously not intelligent" comments put me off. :P

I have a friend who is super-openminded and she says she would love to be gay but she loves men way too much. So that poster initially reminded me of her.

But my friend isn't going to go out and recruit people - I'm probably more likely to try to recruit HER, ahahaha.
