Wow, bad_service has been cranky lately
And so I offer two wanks for the price of one!

First, an australian member rants about her benefits being screwed up. Most people are sympathetic (because unexpectedly being without money does suck) but someone decides she's being ungrateful.
And then this gets followed in the very next post with a miniwank about whether downloading movies is morally justifiable.

That's funny, because every time I apply for them I get denyed.

Yeah, I wonder why that is.

Yeah, um, I'm a white girl with rich parents, and I go to college for free. I, however, can spell denied, and write all the bullshit essays anyone could ever wish for.

jimmychopblock needs to come down off the cross quick and in a hurry.

[info]jimmychopblock is a hilariously bitter asshole, which makes him/her all the more amusing, since all none of that bitching is going to get hir what's wanted.

And [info]tattooedkingpin is an idiot. I don't care if you DL movies on the Internet. I download music all the time, myself. Just don't pretend to justify it with your lower-class martyr's act.

I love people who are martyred by the movie industry; it always makes me wonder if they're secretly failed actors working as wait staff in some Los Angeles dive.

At least the music martyrs had a point, back in the Napster day, when the recording industry unlawfully pumped up CD prices.

Agreed. And I don't usually download things as big as movies, usually just a song here or there for when I don't want the whole CD.

This is how I morally justify the occasional movie I download: if I've seen it at least four times in theatres and intend to buy it on DVD the second it gets released, I download it. Who am I stealing from, exactly, when I've already paid for the movie at least four times and will be buying the DVD? I AM ENTITLED. /mostly not sarcasm

I like [info]agentorangade, though, in response to [info]tattooedkingpin's refusal to support "the bullshit lifestyles of greedy celebrities":
Yeah, but you're also screwing over the average key grip or best boy in your quest to stick it to the "greedy celebrities".
Maybe it's bullshit that [insert actor] gets paid [insert amount considered obscene] to star in a film, but if they're the drawing power for people to see the movie and as a result the production of one of their films employs hundreds of other people, I don't have such a huge problem with that.

Okay, I'm going to the movies now to throw $10 at the feet of the probably over-paid Leonardo DiCaprio and the evil studio overlords who make sure I'm able to support his bullshit lifestyle. MACROBIOTIC COOKING AND ELECTRIC CARS, OH NOEZ!

jimmychophisblocks needs a fucking earhole enema. Free money, my ass! Do you know what you have to go through to get that money?! There's a reason those of us that have been through unemployment difficulties call it "Bending over for the Government." I can't wait to get a job and not have to report to those arseholes anymore.

(The ones in charge, I mean. The poor clerks and desk-jockeys are actually pretty nice most of the time).

Yes, I'm still bitter.

Oh Christ, unemployment "benefits." Every single time a temp assignment ended for me, I'd have to go through the same old song and dance with those people, plus the occasional "hearing" when the temp agency decided they were going to lie through their teeth and say I had "turned down" an assignment.

Besides, where does he think that money comes from? The Free Money Fairy? I'm not sure how it works elsewhere in the world, but around here, you pay into it while you're working and you can draw on it if you lose your job. Part of the social contract, it seems to me.

Am I the only one who thinks jimmychopshisblocks completely missed the OP's point? She's being honest with the government agency set up by her country to help students, and understands she will stop getting the money either this go round or the next. Her complaint was about the agents she was dealing with, who seemed to have no clue what they were doing. If s/he always shows this much failure in reading comprehension, is it any wonder s/he doesn't get any scholarships?

Oh dear, did I just wank all over everything?

From [info]jimmychopblock's LJ:

feeling lonely, cold, and shitty. I wish I had someone to hug up with and watch a movie or something. No sense wishing though, that shit only happens in movies. In real life you don't just meet people, and people don't fall in love. Fuck real life.

And s/h/it's criticizing other people for not sucking it up and dealing? Oh, wah wah wah, someone doesn't have a satisfactory love life, and that's so much worse than a government organization screwing you over for money you both need and deserve. To use s/h/it's own words: suck it up and deal.

Honestly, I don't know what they're teaching kids these days at the Montgomery County Community College - Central Campus.

My heart is bleeding for that poor person who has to work through uni, because obviously they are the only person who ever has to work to survive uni.

Hell, I'm in the UK with relatively cheap education and I still had to work to fund myself.

I'd laugh at jimmychopblock, but I know too many like hir. It's almost like they take great pleasure in wailing about poor them always turned down when if you actually bother to research and dance through the hoops, you can qualify for quite a bit.

As far as the downloading wank, only times I download is when a particular film I want is showing no signs within my lifetime of getting released on DVD. I'm too much of an addict to all the extras to do otherwise.

First of all, the first one bitches and moans about Centrelink when she's been committing fraud all that time by living with her boyfriend and only now decides to tell them because they're engaged.

Secondly, as one who has to stand there and listen to these Youth Allowance dipshits whining all day, I can tell you that half the time they can't even articulate what their bloody issue is. Judging by the rambling nature of her post, I'm going to bet she's one of those.

But yeah, monolithic government department dishing out welfare payments. Of course there are going to be fuck-ups occasionally. Suck it up, bitch.

Kids these days. When I was their age, we had to walk two miles barefoot to our jobs at the college intarwebz tubes. We could only download our movies between the air raid sirens going off, and then the movies only downloaded at 24 baud, uphill, in the snow!

See, that's my thing. I know people work damn hard to make it. I also look at the way the industry treats their revenue source, which is the consumer. And when you look at the money they recieve from advertising in the films they produce, the box office sales, the rentals/sales, and all the other merchandising incidentals they manage to tie-in I can't see how it's right to charge what they charge. If the grips and crew don't get paid what they should that's horrible, and I'm against that happening, but don't tell me that's my fault. That's like screaming how terrible it is that the boat is going down and we'll all be frozen to death in the angry seas, but the whole time three guys in suits are standing on deck each wearing fifteen life preservers and waiting to board a rowboat. The money is there, they just don't want to split it up. And because people like me do what we do, we're the bad guys.

I don't think that makes a whole lot of sense

I don't think it makes a lot of sense either. What's she saying here?
