William Shatner is being channeled by a 31 year old woman working at a Mexican restaurant...
...even though he's not dead yet. In customers_suck, intrepid restaurant worker chaotic_psi is fighting the good fight against accents and people who say grilled steak when talking about grilled steak. Her strategy is abuse of English grammar in her own post.

It doesn't take long for people with a clue haters to show up and argue with her. She tries to use the "It's just my opinion!" defense, never mind that her detractors are also allowed to have their own opinions, but seems to be hampered by her own inability to reply to actual comments. Sweetassalt tries to defend her, but is struck down in turn.

It's small but already wanking, which is why I put it here instead of clairvoyant. On an ending note, I'm really having trouble believing she's 31, y'all. ^^

Wow, the "actual Mexicans slaving in the back" has slid under the radar.

It's sad that was probably the least wanky thing about her post, because, you know, it is a Mexican restaurant, so there should be actual Mexicans working there if the food's any good (which, if I'm guessing right as to which Huntsville restaurant it is, it is quite good).

Actually, now that I've looked at her pics, I know I'm thinking of the right place. I've been served by this girl. She has no room to talk whatsoever.

Sorry, it had to be said.

Also, they don't have actual sliced avocados at her restaurant in addition to guacamole? Lame.

They must have them, if they actually make the guacamole fresh as she claims.

Wow. Has it never occurred to her that when people ask for avocado they might actually want avocado? *Not* guacamole? Although to be fair, guacamole does seem to the mystery meat of the vegetable world in some of the cheaper Mexican restaurants and definitely does not deserve to be called "avocado".

Maybe it's because guacamole is not avocado? I mean it's made of avocado, but it's not just avocado.

You rail against others using language improperly whilst gramatically donkey-punching your native tongue in its defenseless tender bits. Do please stop raping the English language. Young lady, I shall find a way to remove your keyboard's ability to produce Random-Acts-of-Ellipses if I have to do so with a hammer.

tytal for the win.

Fun note about quesadillas - I was at a restaurant in Green Bay (Chili John's, actually) and as I looked on the menu I saw that they offered quesadillas. They offered a description of said food and then - my favorite part - a pronunciation guide.

Man, this whole thing is making me terrified of going near any Mexican restaurants when I visit America. I also looked up how on earth to pronounce "Otay" -- c'mon, Brit here! I would never have guessed it was Oh-tie, and I'm now glad I know. However, if some bint laughed at me in the face or mocked me humourlessly for not knowing that already, I'm afraid I'd have to ask her how she'd pronounce Chcholmondeley again.

I was in a Mexican restaurant once and I asked for the pollo asada (yes, how it was written on the menu and yes there were other types of chicken that it needed to be distinguished from), and the guy reached for the steak. "Oh no," I say, "I wanted the chicken." He glares at me and says "Pollo means beef."

My point? I have this sneaking suspicion he might somehow or another be related to this girl.

I have to agree with the commenters here; ellipsis rape always makes me want to stab things. Why is it that people think that it's a valid way of ending most of their sentences?
Ok, as far as i know, we don't have fried steak or fried chicken, so when i ask you what kind of meat you want on your burrito, etc... don't tell me grilled steak, or grilled chicken as if we have some other form of such.. just please say chicken, or steak... you don't have to add the lovely grilled part, because it's all grilled.. duh... do you see fried steak or fried chicken, no!!!!
She manages to turn a paragraph into a run-on sentence. Let's replay.

Also, that's not Shatner. Shatnering calls for random emphasis and pace changes, not trailing off entirely.

Let me get this straight: deviation from nonexistent rules of pronunciation are completely unacceptable in casual speech, but failure to use the universally established rules of English grammar is absolutely fine because "it's a blog"?

In future, I suggest you urge adherence only to those standards that actually exist.

I saw the Lion King Broadway production the other night, so of course all I've got is:

"Pumbaa, it's not gravel; it's grow-vell!"

Conclusion: if Britons, Aussies, New Zealanders, Singaporeans, and all other English-speakers on the planet have no right to tell Americans we're pronouncing things wrong, then Americans can just shut up about each other.
